You forgot to mention those are the ultimate editions bud.
Standard version is R999. If you buy it via the Win 10 store for pc you'll also be able to share it with your Xbox One Acc, so you're essentially getting 2 copies of the game.
With all that said, the digital tax is now in effect on Steam and I'm fairly certain it's in effect everywhere else.

Gaming as a whole is just becoming insanely expensive.

Not just MS bud, do yourself a favor and pop onto steam and check out how pricing has changed over the last month.
Same goes for EA, all new releases are now at R999 for the Standard version. I pre-ordered Mafia 3 on steam for R500, the pre-order is now sitting at R689 if I'm not mistaken.
The trend started with Fallout 4 and COD Black OPS 3 coming in at R800, then the new Dark souls joined that party and so it's just gone out of control. Now that the digital tax has come into effect games are coming in at R1000.

The biggest issue though is that we're now essentially paying more than the USA, UK and most of Europe. Which is totally mental as far as I'm concerned.

For sure dude, this year my gaming hobby has cost well over 10k (Most likely closer to 15K) just on games, that's not mentioning hardware changes ect...

I hear you. Scariest part is not even half the games on my list for this year have been released yet. Almost all of them land October - December. Most of which are console exclusives
