Hi All,

So I have a old DSC alarm panel that came with the house - Installed by ADT.

Since I refuse to sponsor ADT with money I would like to try and get my Old(very old) raspberry to handle the simple task of emailing me the status.

now I know that the door and window sensors are simple open and close circuits and I can just hook them up straigt to the the GPIO on the PI and tell it to just check for open/close pins, but what about sensors such as the Motion Sensors which are 12V powered? I would most likely need to step this down with a optocoupler thus preventing the PI to buzzz out on me. as the optocoupler would separate the circuit from the Sensor to the RPI basically making the motion sensor act like a normal open and close circuit?

For now I do not need to control the panel just want notifications.

Then when done I can then perhaps use openvpn and dyndns and have the panel as a client connect to a VPN on my phone(for security reasons I would prefer VPN) dyndns is so that no matter how many times the ISP changes my cellphones IP address daily it will be reachable and I can then disable or arm the alarm?

Anyone every tried this with success?

@JackB

Yes I have.
I have my old DSC Power8 connected to Home Assistant and can arm/disarm get zone updates, get Telegram messages, get SMS's, etc.

So that's cool and all but who is supposed to come with armed response when the alarm trips and you are not around respond? What about panics?

As much as it sucks to pay a company like ADT one kinda needs them. And there's usually a different alarm company one can join if one doesn't like them. ADT flawless took over our BBR installed alarm system.

It's still hooked up to the alarm company, they still respond. What I can see is if there is movement, where the movement is, etc.
I can remotely turn on the lights in the house and direct the armed response.

Also done this. I hook into the keybus using a NodeMCU, send MQ messages to home assistant. Get notified via telegram and can arm/disarm

Hey there @slipx

Any chance you can take some pics of your wiring from/to the Nodemcu and your DSC board? They say a picture tells a thousand words and would sure help me in my quest to get some smart integration in my old DSC system.
