Slipgate Mode and a New Champion for Quake Champions

Quake Champions gets a new update of around 3.8gb, so it adds Slipgate mode and a new champion for the game, an ultra-mobile Quake 2-inspired champion called Athena, and an Arcade, which will host matches with wacky rule sets that rotate every week.

New Champion

Athena’s calling card is her grappling hook, which makes her the most agile character in the game. When hooked onto a surface, you can press and hold ‘F’ to start swinging from it, which gives you lots of options for getting around aerially. You can just zoom straight to the hook without swinging if you like, which will be very useful on the ground for getting to power-ups ahead of enemies.
Champions Pack

If you don’t own the game’s Champions Pack then you’ll have to pay to unlock Athena—or, you could hope that the community collectively plays one million rounds of the new Slipgate mode before the end of the month, at which point she’ll unlock for free for everybody (and existing owners will get a bonus skin).
Slipgate Mode

Mode is an attack vs defense mode that sees two teams battle over a Slipgate portal. Everybody spawns with all weapons, full health and full armour, but just a single life. It’s the defending team’s job to protect the portal, allowing a tentacled demon to be summoned, while the attacking team tries to destroy it before the beast arrives.

About the Game

Since August 10, 2018, it has been free-to-play, you will still require to buy the Champions Pack if you want all the Champions in game.

Professional Quake Player for Energy eSports won the tourney at rage very active community since the implementation of slipgate mode now
The above player has been streaming
I think most of the guys play on EU servers though. Does not seem viable to wait 30+ minutes for a game

Point noted still worthy of a try wouldnt you say ...
Yeah I jam it and love the game! Was just wondering if it is my net bugging out and not finding local servers. Or if they are just not really active

I only have a 2mb adsl line. The ping isnt a problem I feel. Maybe one in 10 games feels a little laggy but I dont notice it most times.

If all you play on is EU servers with +- 180ms then it is fine yeah. But compare that playing on 10ms or lower and it is a huge difference. I guess it depends on how serious you play

I think there's a group on Facebook and WhatsApp where some of the people arrange games etc. You could probably find out there when peeps are playing.

Howzit Flex

The SA community is very active, here is some info for you. No one ever queues for games, games are pre-arranged with other members in the community:

Facebook group: https://web.facebook.com/groups/1359214970763328/?ref=bookmarks

The match making WhatsApp group: WhatsApp Group Invite

The General Quake WhatsApp chat group: WhatsApp Group Invite

I'm curious, are you by any chance the Flex from Quake 2 days?

Update: I see the whatsapp links are no longer working, I'll try get updated links

Who says I am not a big family man?
Just assuming my family status just like that.... Seriously! In the times we live in now people still have the audacity to do that!

I am deeply disappointed
