Sim Rigs

I'd say roughly 21% before shipping costs.

I just bought a McLaren GT3 wheel and a Clubsport quick release @ R4450 before shipping. DHL sent me a customs clearance costs of R940. That equates to exactly 21%
May I ask where did you get it from ?

Hey everyone. I really want to get into sim racing (currently only using quest 2 for development) and saw that F1 is free to play this weekend so really want to give it a go (big F1 fan). I don't own a wheel or pedals and was wondering if there is someone in the Cape Town area that might have an old set I could borrow for the weekend.
I will of course fetch and drop back off at a time convenient for you, and if gear safety is an issue you're welcome to come along and visit for a beer and some racing at mine.

Hoping to get a sense for the full setup before I commit to purchasing a WHOLE bunch of stuff XD.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone have any input into having a high refresh rate monitor for sim racing or will a decent sized TV do? I have been moving my playseat challenge infront of my 165hz screen but I want to now dedicate a space to my sim rig hence I am looking into another screen/monitor. Even cheap high refresh rate monitors on carb are around 3500 to 5500 where as a 4k 32inch Smart Sammy tv is 3k on the second hand market.

I'm using a 43” Samsung 4K TV on my sim rig. It's a 60Hz screen and it works fine for me.

Game Mode gets rid of input lag so no issues there.

Well if its good enough for the carbonite resident sim racer that's all the buy-in I need lol thanks man...will rather go that route. It isn't a FPS shooter after all.

Personally I prefer a higher refresh rate, but I only play in VR.

High refresh rate is a waste in Sim Racing, you're better off spending your money on resolution or size.
As you're not turning your camera quick/often enough you'll barely notice the higher refresh rate.

Rally games will benefit more from high refresh rate than track sims.
If you're going to use it for more than just racing, like flight sims then high refresh rate might be more appealing.

What complete garbage

If you have raced at 144fps and go back to 60fps your eyes will bleed

My advice is a 32 inch 144hz 1440p screen.

But depends on how serious you are and what you race

I am slightly concerned with going from a 165hz 1440p screen to 60hz however I am not that serious of a racer. I play a multitude of games and I go through phases where I will race exclusively but other times I`m playing Elden ring, COD and even single player story games.

More importantly, what is your goal?

I play exclusively in VR, even though it could put me at a disadvantage for some endurance iRacing events just because I cannot go without that immersion factor.

What do you want to do with sim racing, what games do you want to play and how competitive vs casual are you looking for it to be?

I'd always suggest a higher panel size as FOV is always king with sim racing, but ideally a nice middle-ground might be something like 32" 1440p 120hz. That way you can add two more either side later as well - and honestly going from 1440p to 4k isn't as important in sim racing as you might think.

You should be fine as long as input lag is low. Not all TVs have game modes, and not all game modes are created equal. Best to research the specific TV model in advance.

Going from 120Hz and above to 60Hz always bugs me out (especially with the mouse cursor movement), but one's eyes/brain quickly adjusts.

I would say I`m quite casual. I mainly play assetto corsa, i sometimes dabble in ac competizione but that's not too often. I am looking at 27 to 32inch high refresh rate now.

There is nothing worse than using a tv with high input delay and screen tearing. High end TV's are generally ok in game mode but most suck for sim racing.

A 32" 144hz monitor at 1080 or 1440p depending on budget will be a great sweet spot.

That’s true. My tv is horrible without game mode enabled. The input lag is horrendous and gets worse if you enable dynamic mode and other post-processing features. Game mode makes it behave like a normal monitor but it’s only 60hz. I’m planning to upgrade to a triple screen 32” 144hz setup but that’s still far in the future.

So just some input on my sim rig experience...

If starting out, get a decent wheel, with at least 5nm of torque, it makes the experience well worth it to feel immersed.

Must have a great brake pedal set ( LC preferred ), this is more important then the wheel it self.

Seating Position of the rig is very important... choose wisely on GT or F1 Style as this can affect your overall breaking distance and use of the brake pedal and distance to screens.

On that note, learn trail braking as a must, this will make your faster up to 2-3 seconds a lap.. yes carrying speed is very important.

Lastly if considering a 3 x screen setup, make sure you prepared for how difficult it is to align and to also understand that setting it up in windows every time you boot is going to happen as Nvidia surround is crap...Also please dont go triple if you have anything lower then a RTX 2080 for 1080p and RTX 3080 for 1440p... games will run at 80fps or so and can touch 60fps when its crowed.

Either then that enjoy it for the learning of a new skill and not the equipment....as there will always be better stuff out there.

My Rig :

Moza R9
Moza GS V1
Moza SRP LC Pedals
F1 Style Sim Rig
Triple 32inch 2k 165hz Screens
Racing Gloves ( A Must Have )

What did your Moza setup cost landed?

Gloves are really important for Alcantara and grippy rubber. My Asher Racing wheel can hurt if I use it bare handed for long.

I'd recommend Mechanix gloves.

Seems there are plenty people who own thrustmaster servos here on carb but a lot of the QoL items for these products need to be shipped from US/Alibaba. Has no one with a 3D printer maybe thought of selling stuff like the quick release rings? ( Thrustmaster Quick Release Ring )

You could print these for next to nothing on request and sell them for R100 - R150 a pop before shipping.

Hi guys. Anyone knows where I could get a local replacement or maybe an upgraded fan for my Thrustmaster T300 wheel base. I've using it on max ffb and the fan doesn't seem to do the job.

many people use this fan for the T300 ( Noctua Premium NF-A6X25 PWM 60MM NF-A6X25 PWM Case Fan )

If you havent yet try running the fan in always on mode until you buy a new one. If you dont know how to put the fan in always on mode, heres a video

Anyone know a place that specializes in compression springs? My Thrustmaster T-LCM clutch pedal spring was broken by the previous owner, but the clutch still works. The spring is just a little shorter than it supposed to be. Been using it this way forever but want to finally get it sorted out.

Dont use the clutch that often unless its just cruising around.
