Deal Thread URL:
Seller:
@tngwex
Buyer: @Pocahontas
Description of Bad Deal:
Bought a MacBook air from the seller, wasn't told that the backlight of the keyboard hardly works, and that many of the keys are stuck (probably liquid).

Seller agreed to refund on 29-Sep-2021, told me he will repost the ad and get courier to collect from me.
Have since tried to phone numerous times.
Messaged him again on 13-Oct, no reply.
Another message on 14-Oct, no reply.
Another message on 17-Oct, no reply.
Messaged on Carb 18-Oct, no reply (could see he was online a few times since me having messaged).

I see he did bump the ad (edited on 29-sep-2021), though still no mention of the other damage to the laptop.

Lastly.. shouldn't this guy get a reseller sub?

[09:14, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I will only have money to refund you at the end of this month.
[09:17, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I will put it up for sale for lesser so that I can get it taken from you and pay you the balance
[11:18, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: Hi Jethro
[11:19, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: For a faster refund, please do send back the MacBook so that I can sell to Gauteng buyers
[11:21, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: The Gibson Eco Estate
Unit 114a
9 Gibson Drive West
Buccleuch
Sandton
Johannesburg
2090
[11:24, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I’ve decided to sell it to someone else who can check and test before buying.
[11:25, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: I’m sure you can understand my hesitation here….
[11:25, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I’m also expecting you to understand my hesitation
[11:26, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: No, I don’t understand it at all. I don’t think anybody would
[11:28, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: You bought from me knowing that the unit is faulty. Now you want a refund. I’m advising you to sell in your area but you refusing.
[11:29, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: I bought it knowing the screen is faulty. Nothing else was ever mentioned.
You also ignored me for what, a month?
I advised you that nobody will want to buy this considering it’s not only the screen but also the backlight and buttons that are also faulty.
[11:30, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I’m not trying to con you. If was a con I wouldn’t have sent you the unit after your payment. I’m only trying to refund your money faster but it requires a resell to someone who wants to view the MacBook in person
[11:32, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I also need to check if everything else is in order on the MacBook. It’s one of the refund policies.
[11:34, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: I also noticed I had to cover packaging yet your ad stated that the MacBook would be wrapped 😅
[11:34, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: Was this policy made up today
[11:34, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I sold that unit for money at the end of September. I obviously used the money for what i needed it for. Now to process your refund quicker, I need to resell. So I obviously need to check if all is in order and also get it to the next potential buyer. If you cannot understand that, I dont know how we can resolve this
[11:34, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: This is just getting ridiculous
[11:34, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: I’ll happily wait for the refund
[11:35, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: No its just a basic policy. You cannot refund without checking the status of the goods.
[11:36, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: You trusted me to deliver. Now i need you to trust me as your seller to refund your money upon the inspection of the unit
[11:36, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: Ok, this isn’t getting resolved. Just give me the MacBook password please
[11:36, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: Can’t trust you after ignoring me for a month
[11:36, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: qwerty
[11:37, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I am trying to help you with the refund. The trust needs to be mutual
[11:37, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: I can be trusted because I don’t ignore people, and have 102 itrader.
You can’t be trusted because you disappeared for a month.
4 times I messaged and probably 8 phone calls?
[11:37, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: In that span
[11:43, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: Sorry Ive just been advised to make sure to check everything before sending out money for any refunds. You bought it faulty and obviously tried to fix it. If there was any damages while you were trying to fix it, I definitely need to check all that before sending cash. Payday is next week, I also have a potential buyer. The faster we do this, that faster we resolve the situation
[11:43, 20/10/2021] +27 84 374 7043: Obviously tried to fix it?? I spoke about a refund the very same day that I received it
[11:44, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: Im not trying to be difficult. Im sorry that I did not respond to you for a while, but im trying to get this issue sorted out
[11:45, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I wish you could have asked more questions about the unit before buying.
[11:48, 20/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: Sell the MacBook for R2500 - R3000. I will pay the balance. Its at 2020 model and definitely someone will buy it.

Hi there,

We seem to have trust issues with the buyer @Pocahontas
I am trying to process the refund but require an inspection of goods before paying back or getting someone to buy from the same city as myself.

[23:26, 19/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: Hi Jethro
[23:26, 19/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I’m sorry I’ve been really busy. Started a new job and it’s been really hectic for me
[23:27, 19/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I’m struggling to get buyers who are willing to buy without viewing. I put up the advert on Gumtree, OLX and Facebook Market
[23:28, 19/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: Most interested buyers want to come and view first
[23:29, 19/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I would pay but I can’t do so risking you not sending the MacBook back. You cannot send the MacBook back first because you cannot risk me not paying you back
[23:30, 19/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I honestly put that up on a giveaway price because I needed the money. I’m sure if you advertise it someone in your area can buy it.
[23:32, 19/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: I’m at a crossroad here and I don’t know how to resolve this predicament.
[23:39, 19/10/2021] iNgwe-Kazi: If you have a better solution please let me know

Thanks @Toxxyc

The seller responded to me last night, saying "I'm sorry I've been really busy. Started a new job and it's been really hectic for me"
Obviously that is an utterly poor excuse considering I had called about 8 times and messaged on 4 separate occasions. First message was 13-Oct.

I was then also told "I would pay but I can't do so risking you not sending the MacBook back. You cannot send the MacBook back first because you cannot risk me not paying you back"

I explained how its way more risky for me, considering I have 102 iTrader, he has 3, and obviously the way in which he has been ignoring me.

Now today I'm suddenly also being told "I also need to check if everything else is in order on the MacBook. Its one of the refund policies"
This guy has suddenly come up with a refund policy :ROFLMAO:

I did not refuse to refund @Pocahontas

I told him that i sold that MacBook because i needed the money, which i have obviously used
I do not have money at the moment to refund him and I explained to him that the fast way is to get the MacBook back to me because I have a potential buyer who can only buy it after checking it in person.
I also advised him that he can also try reselling the MacBook for lesser R2500 - R3000 and I will pay the balance of that amount

I am in Johannesburg, @Pocahontas is in CapeTown

I also explained to the gentleman that I can only refund him at the end of this month.

The gentleman has no problem waiting.

Don't crop it, Lets see who sent you the PM if that's genuinely how the deal went they won't have an issue with it becoming public knowledge.
It was @Yasin

Bought a GPU from him, next morning simply told him it isn't working, didn't hint at a refund or anything at all, basically just said it isn't working. Received the most defensive essay known to man:

"Hello there. This is why I insisted on testing card before you took it. You tested it, confirmed it is working, paid, and left. Gona quote text from my thread below. You can confirm with admin that text was there before our deal took place. The only thing I can suggest is troubleshooting and I am happy to do everything to help you get it up and running on your side but there is no way I can offer you a refund. Sorry. I ensured that your eyes never left the card from the time we tested to the time cash was placed into my hand so no way we could argue that I swapped out GPU. We ran Unigine Heaven Extreme which also places the card under load and check temps, voltages, clocks, etc. and all was in order before you paid and took it. If swapping out the GPU fixes it I am pretty sure the card broke from the time it left here to the time you installed on your side. I could suggest drivers, fresh Windows install, etc. but all of that would just be a waste of time. You could also bring card to my PC to check if it boots here again and maybe that kinda 'resets' it. I am truly sorry to see this happen to you. I can assure you that I am not a scam artist. People that have dealt with me previously can vouch for me."

The way he got so defensive immediately just made it seem really suspicious. Still, I didn't ask for a refund or anything at all. I actually just went quiet, while he nagged me to leave him an iTrader.

@Yasin, your accusations are absurd. I don't take kindly to someone trying to mess with my business so think twice before you do that again.
It took a lot to hold myself back from how I actually wanted to respond. 😅😅Goosfrabaaaaaaa

What did you want him to do, if not refund? If you tested the card, were satisfied that it's as advertised and working, bought it, and *didn't* want a refund, why even tell him it's not working?

Lol, passive-aggressive people really trigger me. I bet you get a lot of people acting "defensive" with you out of nowhere.

There were screws loose on the GPU, as if it had been worked on. Is it not worth at least enquiring about, saying something about?
Why NOT say anything?

There was nothing passive-aggressive about it

The previous deal does not have relevance here. Pocahontas tested the card at @Yasin's place and was happy with it, it ran all the benchmarks and whatnot and in the end my opinion on the matter was that he can keep the card - there's no refund in question there.

This is a different ballgame. The laptop is in worse condition than advertised. Yes, it's got a broken screen, but that's typically a relatively simple fix, or it can be used with an external screen. The fact that there's sticky stuff on the keyboard 99% of the time indicates liquid, which is often irreparable.

I stand by my original argument - @tngwex should refund @Pocahontas, even at the end of the month if need be (it's payday today, so it can be done).

A bad review for @Pocahontas is enough for me to ask for the return goods to be checked first before the refund.
He didn't check the goods before he paid for them, so why should you get to check the goods before refunding him? If you get it back after the refund and it turns out the issues he described are fake, you can come back here and we'll deal with it further.

Until then, this thread has run it's course. You owe him a refund, after which you can get the laptop back. Just do it, as you agreed as well.
