I see New Zealand isnt on your list for ex shipping. Are they not an option at all?

We can do NZ, just needs to be calculated manually, email us at export@scottshipping.co.za with package details and collection/delivery address and we'll get the couriers to generate a quote for you.

It's Prime Day gents, go nuts!

Last chance for Prime Day, get those orders in!

Just received a quote from Scott. R2800 for an item that costs R1200.

Absolutely ridiculous!

Again, apologies for not meeting your price expectations, this was explained in the follow up email.

A final price is not decided on a whim, it is calculated including all costs payable and a small markup is then applied. Whether that total is remotely close to your perceived "worth" of the item is not in our control, that is for you to decide. This particular item was clothing, which has extremely high duties applied, hence the high cost.

So possibly "ridiculous" without context, not so much with the full story.

PS: our calculated markup for this sale, R170...

Too true. The Government is trying at all costs to protect the local clothing industry, which means imported clothing has to come in at a massive excise duty (up to 200%, depending on from where and if we have a trade agreement).

The same reason I have never understood why Graphics cards have such a big import duty, it is not like we make them here and there is an industry to protect. I have never seen a Mecer 2080 Ti roll off the line, and if one did I am not sure I would want to buy it.

Also this comes with fire and forget convenience. You pay Scott, he sends you an update or 3 as needed, and then the item is at your door.

No monitoring, no finger-chewing on how long this thing will sit at customs, no stress at all beyond getting over that initial price.

Import it yourself then you tard.

Very brave behind that keyboard of yours.

Was just stating the point that it's a ridiculous price to pay for an import.
I'm sure Scott has done great things for alot of other people but unfortunately I cannot justify paying that amount in shipping costs.

Didn't mean to offend anyone. Seems like you've had a rough day man.

Seems like it.
I never once said he was ripping me off. I just stated the fact that it was a ridiculous price to pay.

Done with the insults? Or is your maturity level that low? :)

According to Scott, he explained it to you in a follow up mail. You then still found it necessary to make your post on here for all to see. It benefits no one.
It does do something though, and that's tarnishing his rep.
Anyway, play it off as 'just stating a fact'.

Please don't talk about tarnishing someones rep when you are acting like 2 year old.
Next time I will be sure to PM you should I want to voice my opinion on a public forum.
Have a good day!

@ScottulusMaximus

Just my 2c worth and an idea that I think may help allot of people who have 0 idea on the breakdown of what it costs to import an item (myself included up until recently).

Create a simple FYI thread that gives a layman's terms breakdown on what the full import costs look like using 3 examples. For instance tech, food and clothing items as all 3 are seen differently by SARS.

It would educate allot of people and also possibly bring in more business as ALOT of us are clueless on importing unless you have actively made a point of asking around on duties, handling fee's etc.

It may be some admin to do but I would definitely appreciate something like that 👌

There was a blog post in the past about the percentages for item type, but maybe it's time for another one.

Hasn't changed much.

I can't get much more granular than that unfortunately, there are so many variables involved it's not possible to give an example that will apply broadly enough to mean anything.

eg: in your request above you gave 3 categories, the SARS tariff sheet with the different categories items fall into is 99 chapters and 660 pages long....

Hi all, sorry for the lack of updates, was one hell of a month! Still going strong for all import, export and local shipping needs, hit us up:

Biggest news is I've finally figured out a way to do costing breakdowns on quotes that should give a bit more clarity regarding our costings and the price of imports :)

Scott
