@ Mods/Admins - sorry if this is frowned upon, but I'm just copy/pasting my initial post as the last post, in case people look past it:

Hi Guys,

Yesterday I posted a sad sob story about being scammed.

I was scammed for R2000 by the infamous Ettienne Groenewald.

Steam: Steam Community :: despaiRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR_ (last online 17 days ago - obviously created a new account).

Editing this initial post and will post it as the last post (in case people skip the first couple of pages)

EDIT:

I called FNB to file a fraud case and they have confirmed that the Account Number belongs to "Ettienne Groenewald", the usual suspect (as everyone quite obviously knew).

I think we need to create a Sticky with what his voice sounds like, his typing style, etc. - I have several voice notes that I'll be happy to share with Carbonite, including the entire WhatsApp conversation if that might help.

Any way, here are the banking details he used with me, which, coincidentally, has already been reported for fraud - the FNB agent also advised that there are a LOT of Accounts listed under his name:

Bank: FNB
Account Name: DM van Zyl
Account Number: 62605599482
Account Type: Savings
Branch: 250655
Email: dmvanzyl86@gmail.com

Fraud in itself is illegal, but I think impersonating a police officer is a substantially higher offense. I think he's actually gone full retard this time - hopefully the police won't take that matter too lightly.

Any way, I'm going to report this at Durbanville Police Department when I get home from work today - if anyone else has been scammed by him, you're more than welcome to join me - can PM me for details and then grab a beer after (beers on you, obviously, hehe). I plan on getting my money back and I plan on getting him sentenced for whatever crimes he may have caused.

Wish me luck, boys and girls!

I am getting rather annoyed with the amount of people coming crying about being taken for money on carb ... The users on this forum must be the most naive , trusting people in the world ...

1) How is this STILL happening with all the information and warnings given by the moderators and other users here
2) How can people STILL believe the impossibly good deals R1800 for a GTX 690 ?!! smelly fish is smelly
3) Do your homework and check if the dealer is legitimate and has itraders before parting with your hard earned money ?
4) Is there a thread for such a deal ? Check Itraders again !
5) Use only reputable shipping agents ?!! Ichigo etc etc

I understand sometimes blind CUD rage has the better of you , but daaaamn ! cmon guys ;(

I'm not complaining, I'm alerting people. And advising that I'm going to go to the police station later today, with evidence to report Ettienne.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. I'm not bitching anywhere and never did I cry about losing R2000 - I take full responsibility for being a naive newbie, despite reading that other people have been scammed. I'm hoping this post (like many others) helps future newcomers into not believing people who are dumb (or smart?) enough to impersonate a police officer (if the police officer is even real - who knows).

Any way, my last post was just to update everyone that the culprit is Ettienne Groenewald, as confirmed by FNB themselves and that I'm going to try do something about it, in hopes that it stops - for myself and for everyone in the community.

Re: Ettienne Groenewald (Impersonating Police Officer)

Last time I checked, newspapers loved running stories on serial fraudsters. And last time I checked, they usually get arrested soon after the story gets published. Journalists seem to be better at investigating than the police.
