The have been running 24/7 for one month. Apparently they havent been O/C. They are a month old and still under a 3 year warranty. Is this a safe purchase? thanks

Hi vlad, I would recommend you run a benchmark on the cards before you purchase them. Also get the invoice for warranty purposes in case something happens to them.

Hey, thanks. I dont know too much about the wear mining has on a card. Also from what I've read in other forums, warranties may not cover damage caused by mining (not sure how true that is though). So i was just wondering if anyone has had experience with this

If the card bios is standard and hasn't been overclocked then you'll be fine with warranty. Mining causes the card to run hot but so does gaming. Only difference is that mining runs 24/7 depending on user, but with oc not done and cards are still default bios then you'll have no issues at all. Still run a benchmark though to make sure there is no damage to the card for your own safety before purchasing it.

Thanks again, I'll take note of that. Didn't realize this was such a sensitive issue lol

Yeah, you could end up with a card that was mined more safely and it may work for 3 years or you get it and it works for 3 months or so and dies. Just the risk you take. Cards can also become duds as well, risk is always there just increased after mining.

If it is being sold below MSRP and the benchmarks show it as running solid, plus what others mentioned then definitely go for it.

Hey bought a card from a miner.
My experience .
OK so he explained how he mined, undervolted and underclocked to get similar performance but reduce heat. He explained how he kept it cool(with a normal fan BTW) and the temps it ran at. So I bought it and have been using it for 2 months now. So far so good😁.
The only thing I did was clean it, get rid of the dust. Repaste it also.

I try and keep it under 65c as he ran it at constant 60-65c depending how many cards he put on the rig that day.

Cards or tech in general have what they call a bath tub life span the first few months it will work at optimum. After say 6-12months is when it starts to dip not performance but the possibility of it failing then after say 2 years +- 6 months is the final phase where it is most likely to survive. That is why most cards have a 3 year warrenty.

Hope this can guide you a bit.
Just my experience and what I have learned about.

The longer it has been mined the bigger the risk.
Just try and take into account the external factors affecting the card and if it has been mined I suggest getting one with a warrenty as it's just makes you feel safer.
All the best CUDing

Should be fine especially because it's so new and still has the warranty. Just always benchmark it first checking performance and temps. Also, take a close look at the card itself and see if there are any scratches or marks on the card. Mining with GPUs does wear the cards out quicker, but they are made to run at quite high temps and long periods at a time so I wouldn't worry too much.

That they didn't over clock it isn't necessarily better for the longevity of the card, stock settings make cards run hotter when mined. Remember the big part of mining is keeping power usage down. Power usage and the heat of the card are directly proportional.

Most mining algorithms require overlooking of memory underclocking of the processor, the majority of heat is generated by the gpu processor.

Also keep in mind that electrical circuit failure can be caused my expanding and contracting of the circuitry, when mining this doesn't happen as often as when gaming. Mining keeps things fairly constant.

Yes I am a miner, but let's use a bit of science and experience here rather than speculation. I've only had one card fail on me, a sapphire reference RX 470, in my early days of mining (owned my 3 or 4 guys before me). That one ran at 80deg to get to 27 Mhs, nowadays I don't run cards anywhere near 70.

One month of mining wouldn't affect your card in noticeable way, unless its been running over 80 deg.

External factors for sure, but I have to disagree with the length statement, at least in the way that you make it sound like any electrical component degradation only happens when a card is mined with. The longer someone uses a card for gaming the same can be said to be true, perhaps even more so. Refer to previous post.

Fully understand your point and apologies if that is how I came across. That is why in my circumstance the way the guy mined it in terms of cooling was concerning. I bought it off forum so I took a bit more precaution.

Kind regards
