Hey everyone, i need some advice. So i'm thinking of upgrading to a new pc maybe and was thinking of selling my current pc. I have asked around and most recommended me to ask R10k to even 15k for my pc.Specs as follows:
Ryzen 7 1700x
X370 SLI Plus
24GB DDR4
500GB HDD(keeping my boot drive)
80mm fan
Thermaltake Full Size Case

Any recommendations what i could ask? I'm thinking of getting components for a Ryzen 7 5850G with a B550 & 16GB upgrade kit from evetech, possibly an antec 550w psu and maybe an 240gb ssd & case i might get a Evetech Ares or Rix case

Less EveTsek as an option.

Now to the serious part - can your mobo BIOS flash to support Ryzen 5 000?

lol i'm not a fan on evetech but they are reasonable. i have no idea, i dunno about bios etc, still learning computers still

I know it's not directly what you're asking, but I thought I'd mention a couple of things to think about in any case:
  • 24GB of RAM sounds slightly dodgy. I'm not sure what your DIMM setup is, but it is likely that you're not getting full performance out of your RAM setup.
  • If you're wanting to upgrade to an AM4 CPU, and you don't hate your current motherboard, you could simply upgrade the CPU only. Right now your motherboard can take anything up to and including the Ryzen 3000 series, but it's quite likely that this motherboard will soon get a BIOS update that'll let it use Ryzen 5000 series CPUs as well. I upgraded my 1700x to a 3700x a while back now, and even "just" that was quite a nice upgrade.
  • Unless you're planning on foregoing a dedicated graphics card, you should get a non-g version of the Ryzen CPUs. The g-versions, the ones with integrated graphics, come with less cache and are slower than their non-g counterparts.
  • I don't think a 5850G actually exists.

i already have a gtx 1050ti, the 24gb is cause i couldnt afford another 16gb so i just adding in an extra 8gb, gta tends to not run too well with 16gb or lower. the 5780 or 5850g or something, saw its upgrade kit on evetech. i know nothing about bios etc so not sure what my board can accept

MSI is quite helpful with compatibility data

I was just about to post that link :) But yes, that. You can easily check what CPUs are currently supported through that link. So yeah, what I'd do if I were in your position would be to buy a 3700x, perhaps even second hand if you want to save money, and then buy a second 16GB memory stick of the exact same type as the 16GB stick you currently have, bringing you to 32GB of dual channel memory. You can then sell the Ryzen 1700 to recoup a little bit of the expense.

Oh, and if you do go the route of upgrading CPU with your current motherboard, then just make sure you install the latest BIOS version before you install the new CPU!

Upgrade to the 3700X like the others have said.

Evetech are shit. If your upgrade bundle from them breaks and they don’t RMA it for you, can you really afford that?

Or a 5600x for faster single core if he doesn't need 8 cores.

Unless Pci-e 4.0 is an immediate requirement you can definitely squeeze some life out of that platform (I've built a few X370 systems and while they can shit themselves over RAM type they're a good base). The 1700x is pretty long in the tooth now and the prices I've seen for that CPU haven't been too high so I think the R10 to 15k price would need a good GPU to be feasible.

Sell the 1700x for around R2k, put that money towards a 3000 series CPU (5000 series prices went back up so second hand 5600x chips hopped up by around R500 second hand to R4500 again, also do you want to wait to see if your board will support that gen).

Some 3600 CPUs are going cheapish so you might want to opt for that as an intermediate option for around R800 added after you sell your 1700x?

How come? What's wrong with Evetech? Never used them before

I think you misquoted me for someone else, but anyway evetech has a lot of documented, albeit anecdotal, problems regarding honoring warranties and after sales support when problems occur. Basically you pay cheap prices for no warranty irrespective of whatever 1 year/2 year/3 year, etc, warranty you see on the website or printed on the box, any warranty claim you have through them is a lottery on being successful.

Regarding the 5600x, it is faster than the 3800x for all single thread and multi threads tasks that require up to 6 cores, 8 core heavy workloads is when the 3800x pulls ahead of the 5600x.

Sadly i don't have employment, still studying as a fitness trainer hence the thread, was hoping to get an idea what to sell for to upgrade to a more modern system, was thinking evetech or maybe wootware otherwise

What brand and model is your motherboard? If it's compatible with the latest cpu (which it should or soon to be) then sell your current cpu and buy a 3800x if you want more cores or a 5600x for overall faster speed (and less power usage), and sell one 8gb ram to buy one 16gb ram stick. Keep everything else and buy whatever is missing like an ssd.

its an msi x370 sli plus

Well apparently the latest beta bios provides support for ryzen 5000 for your board,

You might want to wait for the bios update to move off from beta, but overall it seems you're fine with using either a 3800x or a 5600x.

What do you use the PC for?

If you use it mainly for gaming, and want to upgrade for better performance, you'd be better off upgrading your GPU than your CPU, motherboard and RAM.

Those will help, but the GPU is the main determining factor in gaming.

Gaming, the problem is the most gpu's is aroundR7000+ now, i wanted to get the gtx 1660 6gb but its too expensive, tho i'd kill for a rtx 2060

I hear you man, GPU prices have been nuts. They should be dropping now though, maybe wait a bit? AMD and nVidia should be dropping new cards a little later in the year, which means people will be upgrading and selling their existing cards. Otherwise, if you feel you need an upgrade now, follow the advice above.

The 1660 now lives in a shitty kind of limbo, not RTX, not old enough to be cheap and not able to keep up in rasterisation compared to newer releases. RTC 2060 or RX 6600 are good options and the 6Gb 2060 beats the RTX 3050 until it hits its VRAM limit. But its not a great time for buying this very second, I suspect the 2060s will drop some more and you'll have cheaper 1070s (cheaper than a 1660), 3060s are pushing below R9000 and will push the 2060s etc further down the price chain hopefully as well.

i was literally just looking at a 6gb maybe, not asus cards, had a r9 290 and it gave me endless problems
