Hello fellow Carbies

Today I unboxed my 6 core Ryzen 3600 and decided to compare it to my 8 core Ryzen 1700x

I know some of you would be interested in some of these results

The max I could get my ram to was 2933mhz on the 1700x and with the 3600 I could run XMP (3200mhz CL16) with no problems
I could not get the 3600 stable on 4.2ghz all core even with 1.4v, Ryzen master has an *Auto OC* it clocked my 3600 to 4.1GHz all core and 4.3GHz Boost at around 1.4v

I have not tried going any higher than 3200mhz for the ram and have not tried anything lower than CL16 will try that later and update the post

If you have any questions or games you would like me to run feel free to tag me and ask away

Full PC specs
CPU : Ryzen 1700x/3600
GPU : GTX 1080 Aorus extreme @stock
Ram : 2x8GB Ripjaws V 2933mhz CL15 (1700x) / 3200mhz CL16 (3600)
MOBO : Asus Crosshair hero VI x370 with bios version 7201
CPU Cooler : Fractal Design Celsius S36 360mm AIO
PSU : Cooler Master G750M

Some issues that I had :

In Ryzen master you can OC individual cores but even if I put core 1-3 at 4.2ghz and core 4-6 at 4.3ghz some of the cores downclock all the way to 3.6ghz and some stay at 4.2/4.3ghz.

When I installed the new cpu I did not install a fresh windows, when I booted up my 144hz monitor was locked on 64hz for about 1min then the screen went black for a few seconds and the monitor worked as it should at 144hz.
Would recommend a clean windows install.

I cant see CPU temps in any of my software programs except for Ryzen Master, I would not worry about my temps that much with my 360 rad, but if you are using the stock cooler be careful.

Thank you for this, very useful.

Update :

Was playing cs go with friends, pc full shutdown for no reason, now it wont boot into windows, can only mess around in bios. Will be doing a clean windows install

The way the 3rd Gen Ryzen's are designed there is no real benefit in manual overclocking . In fact it will often lower perfomance as everything seems to be temperature dependent. Seems the best thing to do is get a good cooler and keep temps as low as possible to get the highest auto boost speeds as possible. All in all not much of difference regardless of what you do.
Nice yet boring CPU's.

Also for your gaming benchmarks, I would assume you were running relatively lower resolutions because once you get higher, it becomes GPU bound and less CPU bound.

But otherwise very interesting indeed, particularly the cinebench and Firestrike results where a low closer than expected.
Also, your 370 may be show limitations on the RAM as the x470 chipset is more RAM friendly (Just a thought)

All testing was done at 1080p exept for the cs go tests that was a lower resolution (the res I play on)

Update :

After about 5 hours of pc crashes I finally figured out that there is nothing wrong with my pc, the auto voltage was just to much for the cpu and would not boot into windows, I needed to set a fixed voltage of 1.35v very odd

More issues, I cant boot into windows no matter what I try, also I can only get into bios about 1/10 times and the 1 time i did get into the bios the bios froze up and hard locked the pc. not sure what is going on seeming that everything works earlier ...

Peter, I'll be honest I've had nothing but great times with the 3600 you have as well as the 3900X I have now. If I run only benchmarks I can run this 3900X at 4.39Ghz using 1.38Vcore. Temps are just over 80C. The other option would be 4.36ghz at 1.33vcore with temps around 74C, but performance not really where I want. At present, for everyday use I've settled for 4.267ghz at 1.25vcore, now I can even bench running 4.29ghz at this vcore but it won't pass prime95.

Now I do not use Prime95 or OCCT or any stress tests to test my system.... I have a feeling when things work and I use what I have if it runs what I throw at it so all good. I do belive manual overclocking is key with these cpus, just to get that little extra all core. I seriously could not care less about single core speed.

What air cooler will you recommend for Ryzen 3600 for max performance?

A very big Noctua. It’ll outperform quite a few AIO coolers without the risk of your pump dying.

Cheaper option would be the Hyper 212X, a great bang for buck option that I can personally tell you that it’s amazing. Not as good as the Noctua but far less expensive.
