where have you peeps been?

keeping in shape? (I know I'm not)

so, want to find out:

I made a pull-up bar with some round bar, so it's very smooth

short of using chalk or gloves, could I wrap it with some of that tennis racket grip for some grip?

my mom and I really need to start doing our little 30mins sessions again

after the winter we just stopped because if it wasn't something being built where we usually train, it's something like those damn riots causing crap

My 2c - I haven't been great with my gym since June (less often and less intense). I am however reading into the exercises more + form.

I am looking to get some books of Frederic Delavier - his illustrations are just gorgeous and I love the detail of knowing which muscles are worked.

My studies are done for the year so I will be back to twice a week - I have also started lower back stretches in the morning as I feel that my stomach is bulging. Does anyone have any advice on how to see what it could be? I do have a visible six/eight pack & have core at the end of each routine but is not as visible as it used to be (I am working on my posture).

"my mom and I really need to start doing our little 30mins sessions again" A circuit of some sort?

Regarding the pull-up bar, may try a Sportman's or Decathlon or Amazon - I am sure that they have some sort of textured tape or gripping. No way for you to knurl it?

I am in shape (Round - very fucking round)
I hate there not being a gym close to where I stay and I lack the discipline to exercise at home.

on a side note (I have to make serious plans to loose weight ASAP!!! )

Try and watching this dudes channel. I love him!
He's not about getting ripped or being the strongest or anything like that. He just wants you to be healthy, fit and happy.
They call him the Bob Ross of fitness

I did also like https://www.youtube.com/user/VitruvianPhysique

He made a lot of good points & explained things well (at least when I last watched back in 2018).

This was my go too YT channel for this purpose .
Agreed - the dude was just so grounded in reason.

My 2c to help you out - find what sort of exercise you like. Doing a shit workout plan for a few months is fine (making you miserable) but it will deter you in the long run.

I have seen this with my SO - she has tried various things & not taken to any because she saw all of them as a choir & hated every minute of all of them.

We will try weighted goodies while cleaning as she likes doing this - it is unconventional (who cares though).

In short - find an exercise that promotes the goals you want to achieve as well as a good mindset & be realistic about how it will help you get there (e.g passive exercising will never get the same results as weight lifting).

This is what I love - I love going to the gym and just lifting till my arms/legs wont (although I have never pushed my legs to the point where they stop working normally)

@Dom unfortunately no, can't knurl it now since it is welded in place, however was thinking of cutting it out and then using an old straight bar that I can't use in it's place

yeah, you could say it was a kind of circuit

was a bunch of stuff put together for like 1min sets

we only did it to "keep doing something"

my biggest downfall..... I enjoy food, so eating properly is a big no and the biggest pain for me (as I would like to get rid of some belly fat)

I love food - and I can slay an entire chicken on my own (or 2 large pan based pizza's - im not proud of this though)

Sounds like a plan - the tape/grip would need to be replaced over time. The knurling & strength of the bar is what it is made for - would not want to be groot bek and then become a gym fail.

I do hear both you and @Off-The-Chart - I still have a quick metabolism (due to age + genetics) but do also seriously love chowing (I can happily glutton out with no skaam).

I do not have any control over diet (still living at home and broke AF thanks to the UIF) so it is not really ideal. TBH - macros & micros just irritates me and makes me sad.

Maybe try a nutrition book (for an idea of working with appetite & some affordable cheats)? I don't think eating healthy is undoable but you do need to personalise to what you like (taste, texture, appearance etc) - I am again of the thorough opinion that mindset + overall happiness outweighs a fad diet or that other rubbish.

my mom and brother (half) has this and for her it is really a pain (although I do understand her, in that to start up a routine is really difficult, especially if your body doesn't agree with it)

she would desperately like to gain some weight as she has been around the 40-50kg mark and really does give you that anorexic vibe

I would love to help her just start doing heavier weighted stuff with me, but doing that we would have to up our 30-40mins to like say 1 to 1hr30

our situation is just not allowing that "full time effort" as there is always something else that manages to disrupt it (own business is not such a breeze as everyone thinks)

for me, I would just like to get some strength (obviously with that there will be some body changes), and then ofc that lovely belly (but I need to start doing some actual ab work and more cardio)

as for food... probably the most unhealthy (or just disruptive) meal I have, is my 2 to 3 week interval mac and cheese which I eat for 2-4 days

My go to weight gainer (when I was gymming was 2 slices of bread with a super thicccc layer of PB)
My wieght gainer now is a Full loaf Bunny chow. :ROFLMAO:

Mac and cheese tho - have you not thought of a mass gainer for her (from Supplement World)?

I do understand time constraints - I don't have the time or energy to hit the gym 4-5 times a week. I like my 90/120 minutes routine but fuck doing that for the whole work week.

Is everyone keeping up the gym or fallen further into the December mince pies?
Started going to gym again even though I have a home gym. Just need to get out of the house a little bit, so go there over weekends when it is nice and quiet.

That was also my favourite time (struggled & do still with motivation then) - the rush to get barbell/dumbbell, a bench/seat or the squat rack/Smith machine is not fun

Still struggling with my knee, so squats at the moment are out. Trying to work in as much cycling work as I can to offset the strength deficit.

What part of the knee & no luck with the stretchy band thing?
ITB which causing inflammation in the knee. Got a few things I learned from the previous 3 rehab stints on it, so just scraping by.

year already starting with too many projects to tackle before I can start here at home again :(

trying to add a piece to my pull-up bar for cable exercise from the bottom

already just added a single rotating one to the top where I can do some tri pull downs or cable crunches

just need to weld the plate carrier

recently bought a pair of straps for some hanging leg raise support so doing that every now and then along with a pull-up or 2

Im still delving into the pies ... I cannot go to our gym its stupid expensive and working out at home is a no no (wife makes lekker food)

So basically I lack discipline...

So... I'm doing both. Sitting at home and studying does not do wonders for discipline in the eating criteria but at least getting back into the gym.
