Going to need more info to work with. Starting with budget.

Will send a PM and see if I can help you out.

And thanks, @Dom for the tag.

Honestly, you don't have to worry about the age of the bike personally rather the wear and tear of the components and wheels.

My bike, for example, is a 2008 Giant TCR Advanced T-Mobile Team with no issues at all.

Also, take note that each brand has a different sizing chart: For example for Giant, you might need an L frame instead of XL depending on your length, while with Specialized you would want to go for an XL option.

Decent road bike you probably looking at R8000+. You can browse through the Bike Hub Classifieds and filter is to match your needs. Look for a solid frame (carbon if your budget allows it) with decent wheels (good set of alloy rims - look at Fulcrum something like the Racing 5's and up). Groupset you can also upgrade with time. Shimano 105 should do just fine - it is the workhorse groupset.

Another thing to consider (which is the best upgrade in my opinion) is to go for a bike fit. This will improve your comfort drastically as well as overall performance on the bike, not to mention avoiding all those sores after or while riding your bike.

Please feel free to PM for further details. And that's the thing, it doesn't stop at the bike, then you need a good helmet (very important, something a lot of riders neglect on, I mean my helmet cost me R4300 but you don't have to go that extreme), shoes, accessories (computer unit) and nutrition.

Andrew has given some excellent advice above, also consider a drive through to Bike Market in Sandton they also sell second hand bikes.
