Review sites and reliability - The truth

ShockG and Oj0 I suggest you submit this info to other hardware news sites like TPU and [H] and maybe reddit, I'm sure they won't hesitate to call out Guru3D for this. Even if their 980 Ti results are somehow legitimate, the fact that Hilbert is behaving like a spoiled kid and refusing to answer simple questions is fishy to say the least. Perhaps it's time for Guru3D to go the way of THG.

Just a quick update and I will post more info tomorrow.
However I managed to match the original 9246 score in Firestrike Extreme, which he has since removed from the review. luckily I have the entire page saved where it was located. I will upload that as well.
How I managed that score is to use his recommended means of overclocking, which he claims he used for the overclocked results. You can see this on page 36 of his review, even now.
The thing is. If I use his suggested means of overclocking, right down to the fan speed at 50%.
# My score jumps to 9,666. Which is as you can tell, higher than his original score.
# My GPU score, increases to over 10,000.

The only way to achieve his original 9,246 is if I run the GPU at exactly 1434.1MHZ (Real clock) and 1940MHz, on the memory (+375 as per his suggestion). And bang on
I get to within one point with 9,247.

Yeah, the fat lady hasn't even risen for this one. ;)

In case anyone's confused, those overclocked settings were used to get the score that Hilbert is claiming was "out of the box".

Gents this is fantastic work on your behalf, will be following this very closely.

It makes a lot more sense, no way a factory over clock can be such a major improvement over reference. Judging by the scores you recorded the Gigabyte G1 should get around 16500+ on my rig, that's 4200 more than I'm currently getting. I'd say it's still worthy of an upgrade though, but damn that 18k score was mind boggling even if he was using a oc 5960x

MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Gaming OC Review - Introduction

Look at the difference between this review and his G1 review, bare in mind that the MSI is only like 11/12mhz slower on the clock and 84mhz faster on the memory, yet the Gigabyte beats it on average with 5fps and like 400 points on 3dmark. Don't know about you guys but 12mhz on the clock won't net you a 5fps improvement on demanding games.

Seems Hilbert is blaming the OC Guru II application, saying that's the reason the G1 is performing better. What do you guys think?

Also interesting are the Overclocking results, where the MSI gets a higher clock but lower score on 3dmark. That's 'legit' for you

Must admit I was disappointed to read this. I have always enjoyed Guru3D reviews and have often spent hours going through all the results comparing card to card.

I dont know enough about half the evidence you used in raising your concerns, but being banned for it kind of speaks for itself.

I must say.... it was sort of an eye opener to me. My knowledge is somewhat limited which makes it difficult to pick up on such discrepencies so that you ShockG and @Oj0
