So since i am bussy playing around, i might as well post some pics if i get along.
Modding a haf-x as we speak. Let's start with disassembly.

Then i bought a second haf x, so i could chop and change. i figured out the sidepannels were interchangable, so want a see through haf x, using the window from the other one on my mod one. the donor will have two steel sidepannels which will make it a ideal fileserver or future mod candidate. selling of stuff i dont need as parts keeps my initial costs down. since the drivebays obstruct the viewing windows a drill and a whole bunch of pop rivets later leaves me with a drivebayless frame. because of los of rigidity, the sidepanel i will bolt later through via the fan on the mobo tray. i am still not sure if i am keeping the original front and top or making something custom, i am still designing in my head.

parts everywhere. on the monitor box the remains of the drive cage, needed for some paint testing later on.

Funny bunny. Thanks for that motivation, but you are right, this will be my first attempt on a casemod.

hehehe, I think he thought it might be me :p

give us a little something on what you have planned?

I am a bad planner. I design things as I go along, changing ideas along the way, so saying something now might not be the final product. I do think I am swaying towards custom front and top panels., probably also bottom as I need to mount the lian-li wheels.

well if you find a good place that can do a variety of metal work, such a bending/cutting/adding 'nipples', share the name.

need some for Air 540

now stop talking and get modding :p

(waits for someone to comment on the irony of that post) :D

According to the rules I must nicely reply to all your trolls.

Next step will be getting decent karton so I can make templates for the metal shop dude. Since I will be working like a dog this week, I do not think there will be much modding, slowly 1 step at the time, this is a multi month project.

bit quiet this week, worked 11 hour days all week, so tired in evenings,

saturday, went to builders with my stripped haf x chasis, dumped it on the nuts and bolt counter, and did some nuts and bolt shopping.

hope to buy some karton this week at art and crafts shop for some shaping how i want to metal to turn out.

my lianli wheels arrived today.

perfect width, o yes baby.

i realized i needed some drastic measures to achieve a decent end result. there were just to many wrong things in the metal for it to come out as i want. like the position of the original haf wheels, prevented me from mounting the lianli wheels nicely, so i opted to drill it to bare plates and start design from scratch more or less. wont be much of a haf anymore when done, but i see what i salvage. almost mist a deal Zindaar bussy drilling pop rivets.

yep, that 'perfect' end result is usually the one thing that either screws up the whole idea,

or just adds to the delay of the modding

reason for the hafx was for the tray realy, as it accomodates all formats up to eatx and with two extra holes ssi eeb boards, aka dual processor serverboards.

i allways have been annoyed with computercases as nobody seemed to get it just right.
allready measured height and a 480 rad is a possibility in the front. a case should be designed around the parts that go in it. not trying to fit parts in a case that wasnt designed to hold them.

time to go get karton and build it in karton so it can go to a metalworker:

contradiction?

you are now trying to fit a 480 in it, which technically speaking, the case wasn't designed to hold :)

um.. there is not much 'case' left. what i ment to say is if you keep a case in its original form and then try to hack and slash parts in it.

today is to the 'arts and crafts' shop for some karton to do some prototyping. will be doing a sideline project as well as i need a pc to design the lasercutting parts etc and am pc less at the moment.

getting a zalman z11 after i found out thats the case they used below. allready bought the paint for this sideproject, because its one of the coolest 'paints' i seen in a while:

sorry for being bit quiet here, focussed attention on some other things.

I returned the rust paint and the bolts as plans changed. No more second pc, full focus on the one i am building now. also it wasnt spray paint so i might either need to import some or create the effect otherwise, as in real rust.

It was month end and funds lower to play around. today however i will be getting karton to start designing a case around my motherboard tray. Its to the hobbyshop, getting karton and a cuttingmat with glue to build something from the ground up.

I am still in two minds about keeping the bottom part of the tray, or only using the backpart and making my own bottompart to attach back onto. in the end there is very little of an haf x left.

i also had a change in hardware that needs to go in it, which hopefully be arriving somewhere next week.

Some more pictures today i hope.

Pitty, I saw Haf-x and thought....game on! I got one as well...Any hooooo, will google a bit ;)

Yes this died a slow death, after the motherboard didnt fit the tray.. :(
