Raytracing in Cyberpunk 2077, worth it ? Comparisons inside

Was not bashing the technology, I just pointed out as it stands right now it's overrated.
Will it get more mainstream - hopefully.
HDR was in the same boat not too long ago - and it's come leaps and bounds since, to say the least. I believe ray tracing will follow a similar path. Once developers get to grips with the technology, we will start to see some great implementations. Control gave me a glimpse of this (I know it has mixed reviews, but personally I found it to be superb enough eye candy for me not to miss HDR).
 
Strange that the 2070 Super is not even featured in the specs anywhere... But IMO - RT, not worth the purchase. ~R13k for a RTX card that can play the game relatively okay with RT.
 
Some NVIDIA numbers. Not sure if this is with the DRM enabled or with the Day One patches.

Big gains all around. Nice to see that the 3080 can do 65FPS avg at 1440p with DLSS Quality, hopefully the DLSS balanced/performance modes are around 72-80fps as that would be a nice option to consider.

Now to wait for some non-RT DLSS numbers
3440x1440 maybe 60fps ... Hopeful

Problem with that 13k GPU of yours is that when it does become more mainstream, it won't handle it "well enough" anymore without a massive sacrifice to FPS, as is likely the case for that GPU now, essentially forcing you to get that 40k GPU when ray tracing implementations mature :D
This is dumb because the more mainstream a technology becomes the more optimized it becomes wrt. Software implementation and the cheaper it becomes to produce that hardware. not only that the more competition in the market there is as well. For example. Amd uses direct x ray tracing this generation. Next generation of gpus will improve on that method possibly even hardware wise. Ignoring release n price issues of both gpu manufacturers a 3070 with a msrp of 500 dollars is on par with a 2080ti making a 30000 rand card obsolete.browse gpus on this forum and look at the pricing of 2080ti atm. U see the trend. A 40k card is for early adopters, developers, creators who can afford it its the Apex of what that particular generation can do. It always has been.

I haven't experienced it, but IMO its a gimmick. Most demos and videos I've seen it in looks amazing but IRL most of the surfaces wouldn't reflect light like that. Not everything is super polished to reflect like in the vudeos

I thoroughly enjoyed Control's ray tracing implementation. Control is not the greatest game, it's not bad, but the ray tracing eye candy kept me engaged till the end.
