Hello hello. So I'm interested in playing Rainbow Six Siege after watching some random tournament on Twitch lol.

Are there any Carbies who still play this?

PS Is there anyway to get this on Steam? I despise UPlay, so I don't mind paying extra. Also G2A doesn't seem to work for me.. ever..

Kind Regards

I think the steam version launches uplay anyway, but I could be mistaken.

Ubisoft also mentioned recently that with the launch of Microsoft's Azure servers in South Africa that we are going to get local game servers for at least RB6, so that should hopefully grow the community abit.

At the moment though 180-ish ping feels abit high for me when playing online, although it could also just be that I need to put more time in :)

But yeah awesome game, can't wait for the local servers.

Thanks for the reply :)

I ended up asking a friend to purchase the steam version for me on G2A and it launches UPlay :ROFLMAO:.

Awesome to hear about the local servers, makes finally getting the game sound even better!

PS Is the ultra HD texture pack automatically installed and how big is your installation folder out of curiosity.

A friend of mine and I play on and off most nights. Add me on UPlay (Seightan) and let's jam a few rounds.

Steam sales in 2 weeks, wait it out :) if it comes on special i'm definitely picking it up

Right now Siege is crazy good. One of the best online shooters in recent years. Ubi have turned this game around to become something truly great.

How did you do this? It only works via Steam if you are on a non-SA account. US or EU etc. Still loads Uplay of course.

Hey man,

G2A.com still sells the global steam edition keys. But since it’s more expensive, I don’t think it was worth it lol

Hi all, so I'm part of a rather large discord group of South Africans. We currently mostly play R6 Siege but also play a bunch of others. If you're serious about R6 Siege PM and I'll chat with the the admins.

On another note. One of the previous comments mentioned SA servers, this is true I tried to find the article but couldn't find it as it was quite a while ago. I don't know the eta, I don't think it was mentioned.

Regarding the 180 ping, I've been playing for a bit and do sometimes lose fights because of the ping. The strat is to be bold but be smart about it. Find out where your enemy is and take them by surprise, if you can do this then you will very often do very well. Map knowledge is huge in this game, get angles on your opponents and use tricks.

Unfortunately Uplay is currently unavoidable as South Africans aren't actually supposed to play the game. Just an FYI programs like fraps and msi afterburner cause problems with Uplay. Once you get into the game, Uplay will be such a small bother.

Lastly, I suggest you get the standard at least. The starter restricts the amount of points earned, hindering your progress and frequency with unlocking. The extra bit of money is totally worth it imo.

Ubi announced the SA servers at the last invitational. The servers will be hosted in MS Azure when it goes live in SA. Azure should be live in Q4 with data centres in Jhb and Cape Town.

Are you 100% sure the global keys works on a SA Steam account? Please link me to the store purchase page..

@arf Unfortunately, the game is no longer listed on the steam store (although the 3 year season pass is, which is weird), but you can get hold of a key on G2A

@Madala_ZA PM’ed you the link since I’m not sure if I can post a G2A link here (juuuuust in case)

Uplay = R250

Is it still on sale at Uplay? might have to pick the game up actually

Keen to play siege. Seems to still be growing which is pretty rare for an fps.

Cheapest place to buy? Checked CD keys but seems to be pretty pricey. - R400+

Make sure you buy the standard or advanced edition. The starter pack is not worth the bit you save because you end up grinding for days to get the operators you want. Anything less than 400 is decent. Amazing game. Worth every penny. I haven’t figured out how to get it thru Steam in ZA so I just play thru Uplay directly.

It's all very confusing with all these different editions and fuck me the yearly passes are expensive it's like buying another game every time. This must be Ubisoft's most expensive title o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

Each Op is around 30 hours play time in Renown(currency), so the less you want to grind/spend you Renown unlocking Operators or weapon skins determines what version you buy.

All operators are viable picks.
I've only unlocked 2 operators since launch and I don't feel like I'm at a disadvantage.
(Well once new OP has been balanced that is)

The Starter edition is a lot cheaper but you are given 6 operators (3 Attacking and 3 Defending). You can get away with these and probably get into the game but it will be a grind to get more. Unless you play this as the only game you play and play a lot, it will take quite a while to actually unlock the rest.
The Standard Edition (Which I purchased for around R550) gives you all the base operators which is plenty for picking up the basics and trying them all to find your playstyle. It also saves you time from unlocking these and going straight for the special operators. Honestly though, all the operators can be weak/strong depending on your style of play, your map knowledge, your skills (like use of their gadgets) also a case of being able to learn the weapon of your operator.

I would say the Standard Edition is worth it but try see if you can play on a friends account for a game or two or watch some videos to see if it is what you'll enjoy. I had been playing PUBG before this and this felt like an upgrade because it was so fluid and polished.
One thing though, if you have unstable internet....well....Ubisoft are assholes to people with crap internet. Basically you get kicked from a game if your ping is high and your connection quality is poor.
That is the one downfall to this game, any network issue and you are kicked from a match. Really frustrating when you are winning or making a great comeback and bam, you out.

I started about 2 months back IIRC and really loving it.
Although I literally missed 50% off by a week, so was quite bleak but this being my most expensive game is coming close to being my most played game behind League of Legends.

Is anyone else having an incredibly shit experience with this game?? Besides me being absolute trash and dying ecvery round without doing anything. The lag spikes and the rubber banding is just an unpleasant, constant experience for me. Almost every round has rubber banding and at the worst time when i am confronted by another player.

Bought this recently on uplay. Starter edition is a waste of time as you only get 6 operators. Standard edition is the best value for money in my books. Be prepared to pay out your arse for yearly passes and a grind fest if you are not willing to spend cash on unlocking operators. Also massive amounts of pirates every few minutes pop ups appear showing players being banned by battle eye.

Mate the wall hackers are intense on this game.....

Does anyone get an issue where everytime you close the game it still runs and chews resources in task manager as if the full game were still running? Happens to me every time and I don't understand why.
