So, i have ordered a rain mobile data sim, which should arrive this week. I would just like to know, from anyone who has already received theirs, what is the performance like? Also, how is the coverage? I heard that there are massive gaps in coverage even in suburbs in the center of PTA and JHB.

Many are still waiting for their SIM cards to be delivered as there was some issue. Mine will be coming tomorrow. Waiting patiently so I can test it thoroughly.

Terrible(for data)! I absolutely regretted buying it and as soon as fiber was available I swapped. from 5 pm to 10 pm i would get less than a meg download and 10 megs upload. At 4 am id get 40 megs download and 20 megs upload.

The towers are massively congested.

With the above being such an issue I honestly believe that you will experience terrible quality.

I got mine yesterday. Coverage in my house is a bit meh. I need to be at a specific spot to even get signal. In the sweet spot I get an average of 5 down and 4 up. 20ms ping. I did around 8Gb today in about 4ish hours. Not too impressed TBH - coming from my 70 down an 7 up with telkom.

Just did a speedtest now at my desk. Got these results :

Oh, I heard about the deliveries being delayed too.
I was scheduled to receive mine yesterday between 8 and 9am. Only received at 2pm.
On top of that another delivery guy rocked up about 20 mins after the first one, and wanted to give me more sims.

seems pretty disappointing, and here i was thinking that i could stop buying data on vodacom... hopefully it will improve in the future

I'll be at WITS on Tuesday and will test it out. (I generally have really crappy telkom mobile signal there )

I'll do a few speed tests and see how the results turn out.

That's what I experienced for 5 months. Id look at cell C for data...

Can anyone help
I'm unable to make payment
It keep says declined
Even though I have tried to various credit cards with enough credit

It's setup I don't get OTP or anything after I click pay
Wouldn't be surprised if their website is having problems. it was down over the weekend. Their call center and their live chats are extremely full. Try again after a few hours. I've been struggling to get a hold of them. They delivered the sim and the device yesterday but the sim is still not activated.

So I get prepaid Vodacom data @ R54/gb. Buy R1000 airtime using FNB gets you R1100, add another R300 then get the pay once recurring 2GB x 12 months for R1399. 5GB is the same rate I think (but not factoring in the "free" R100).

Rain only really works for people who use a variable amount of data. For example, I end up having to buy small data bundles from Vodacom as I need them. With rain, I should end up paying much less, if the network actually works.

Sendr Biker asked me to test before he leaves, all 100%.
Guy was quite friendly.

Clear as rain...

Tested with a ZTE MF283+ 4g Router

I'm 900 meters out of the coverage area.

If anyone is gna take out another sim let me know. I’d like the one device and will pay for it and u get 45 days uncapped [emoji847]the battery of the cheaper MiFi isn’t going to work for me.

So did the testing at WITS.

Initial results
1.

2. Moved around a bit

3. And then I randomly found a sweet spot while walking around

Unfortunately back at home, after 20Gbs of game updates , it seems they have throttled my ~5mbps to around 0.3mbps

So not really uncapped, but I suppose it is free so we can't complain. But the inconsistency in the network worries me.

Well just an update.
>My SIM was supposed to arrive at 10am today.
>At 11, I tried to call rain.
Sat on the phone for an hour, no answer.
>After 2 hours, got through to the live chat.
>An hour later on the live chat, all I had was a generic copy-paste apology and a moan about high demand.
>Then it turns out that they can't find proof of my payment.
>I payed through MasterCard, funds had left my account last week.
>Track my order page shows that the order has been processed, but has not yet been dispatched
>they give me a "we'll get back to you shortly" message
>I asked the representative to please allow me to speak to their accounts department instead of "escalating my query"
>They don't have the phone number
>I asked if they could go over and ask
>They don't work in the same building
>I asked what exactly can the support people do?
>They can escalate queries...
>Still no response as to whether I will receive my SIM

I really don't want to sit and wait for them to answer a call or message tomorrow. Not really sure what to do now. It is my advice that anyone thinking of getting a rain SIM waits at least a month until they sort this out.

My delivery was missed on Friday last week and again on Monday with no further communication, ended up cancelling my order via their twitter account.

So my sim arrived this past Sunday with the device, got a call today and another sim and device was delivered by ram couriers. [emoji52] tried to give them a call but can’t get a hold of them as usual. Interested to see if they will successfully rica this sim without picking up that I already got my sim delivered.

So after a pretty disorganized delivery, which I actually cancelled, yet they still delivered, I have some speedtests, and they are dismal to say the least.

Are you still up for this?
