Is Rain limiting direct downloads from sites now also? I know they limit torrents. In steam I can download at 6.4mb a sec. Youtube I stream 1080p easy.
But for some reason I can't download at more than 300kb from a site like Moddb or Humble bundle?

It's the R700, 5G package.

I haven't had them slow down my download speeds. I've had 5g since Nov 2020 and ive been getting 350-400 mb/s. As far as i know the 700 package is limited to 50mbs, so i suggest you go to rain.co.za and put your modem in the optimal location.

Try downloading from other sites that you know are fast as it might just be the site that's slow at that moment. I tend to use nvidia driver downloads to check my speed as that's always been constant.

Speed test don't always show the true speed as some of the guys have put priority on this on their network.

Direct from sites are all slow in general. I download mods from moddb, vectors and image files for designs from various sites and some games that I own directly from Humble bundle/GOG. They all don't go above 300k. In steam I get a full 6.3mbps. Not kilobyte per second, full megabytes per second. 40 gigs downloads in a hour easily in steam.

Apparently if you use a vpn, Rain throttles you as punishment? I need to use a vpn to be able to play games like Ghost recon breakpoint. It's the only way I am able to connect to a friends game. It also removes the massive lag delay when playing Borderlands coop. A Rain technician literally told me he does the same to play Breakpoint and there is no other way.

@Mofo__za Been using Rain for over a year. All settings and positions are optimal. I also hit 300mbs easily, the general speed is not the problem.

I've had Rain now since Feb last year and haven't experienced anything like this so far with them. I get full speed torrenting straight up or via VPN. My speeds have never dropped or been limited in this time. I have the R999 5G package if that makes a difference.

Hi guys, got myself Rain 5G. I've tried downloading some stuff via torrent. Nothing happening download doesnt start at all. Any ideas?

Pretty sure that's listed in their terms.

Yo I have said it before. I can contact the CEO of Rain for you guys, he is a personal friend of my dad. It seems like people are having problems with them.
Please do - i had a R999 plan and the downloads were very fast. As soon as I switched to R700 plan since the start of the month, downloads are crap.

There is a NOC team which would never escalate to a person who is working on the network team.

They should remove any RATE LIMITTING & QoS on Torrents

Well this will be the first for me I can promise you that unless you have a premium package with a 1:1 contention and confirmed by the ISP that they don't throttle torrent sites on your package.

I have had many battles with different ISP's including RAIN regarding 4G/ LTE and 5G throttling. I even had it on a 50Mbps fiber line...every time I got told no ISP offer open lines to torrent sites...due to previous years of download abuse. I eventually accepted this argument even though I don't agree if you pay for an expensive package you should get good service.

Also, I too was at RAIN last year, got like 450Mbps download from the get go and suddenly after 3 weeks...boom, things just went completely ape shite....it got so bad that I could almost get better service with my ADSL line and this while my router is high up my roof showing it's fixed to the nearest 5G tower (+- 800m line of site) with a 5G connection. I had a battle with RAIN for a 3 week period and then told them come collect your shite I am done with RAIN...I am better off now with 4G LTE ever since and people in my area don't seem to want fiber so I am LTE reliant.

thanks for the inputs

1) i have even messaged the CEO of RAIN on LinkedIN. One of the engineer called me and after troubleshooting for 30minutes (inspite of me pin pointing the issue) they have finally informed me that do RATE LIMT on P2P peer connectivity
2) they have bluntly informed me that they cannot do anything w.r.t the issue & when I told them that I would cancel - without hesitation they asked me to go ahead (pathetic service)

I've been using direct downloads from multiple sites without issues, it might be browser specific that it limits your speed. Have you tried using a download manager like FDM or XDM? Personally I've used XDM with no slowing on the downloads whatsoever, same tier plan on Rain as well.
