Hellooo,

Anyone with RAIN 5G Premium in Centurion Area ? How is stability ? Speed etc ?

Currently paying R1k for 25mb fiber, No issues, But wouldn't mind -+200mbps for the same price.

Hey,

RAIN has its niggles but nothing really to complain about. Had about a week, 2 months ago, where speeds fell to around 90 mbps but its been mostly stable at around 400-450 mbps for 7 months now. Had Supersonic fibre in Midrand and that gave me much more issues. It maybe drops once or twice a month but never lasts longer than 5 or 10 minutes. Lockdown has been pretty smooth sailing. Peak hours are still easily 350 mbps +.

Customer service is really poor though. Easier to just wait for the issue to fix itself. Lots of people have had issues with speed and connectivity so I could just be one of the lucky ones.

Not home currently, so can't provide speed test pics.

Thanks for the reply Hex,

really appreciate it. Currently trying the 4g uncapped and actually impressed, speeds seem somewhat stable on 10mbps, was expecting worse given all the bad reviews, but suppose it depends on location Ofcourse. Only really bad thing is the 360p locked streaming

Had the 5G premium for about 4months. Speeds were great and downloads fast. The latency is a bit higher than Fiber and the connection not as stable (had weird connection glitches). Unfortunately had to cancel because I need to connect through VPN to do my job and Rain HATES VPN connections so I got throttled bad. Other than that it was great. The Rain tower was just across the road from me so maybe that helped me a bit.

Went whit unlimited home 5G standard
day and a half and counting
Downloads nice and fast (bit up and down speed wise)
for gaming its utterly kak

Who is your fibre provider? I pay R1299 for 100MB up and down through Metrofibre/Gigago

*sigh* and here I am wondering if we'll ever get fibre in my area. All they've done was dig trenches some 3 years ago and that was the end of it:(

Had Rian 5g for a couple months and was great the first month or 2.
Signal would go for a ball of shit, get dropped off calls regularly and lose connection to screen shares and so on while working from home.

Speeds, one day would rock a 500mb download, 2 hours later if I cracked 100 it would be a miracle and then later that night would go back to 250.
This is with a tower about 300m up the road.

Support started becoming but n existent as you could email today and be lucky if you got responded to in 2/3weeks.
When I cancelled it took them over a month to collect the router, test it and confirm me he cancellation

I stay in the Wonderboom South area, and I have heard the connection this side is worse than in Centurion, but honestly RAIN has been the worst ISP I have ever dealt with. Been on it 6 months, and if I had a good connection for a few days in a row I was lucky. I have spent thousands over that time on mobile data that I needed to switch to for work etc, I will probably cancel soon and would not recommend. Customer support doesn't exist, and problems are impossible to report.

Depends on your area. I live in Centurion and could not even get to 80mbs 2am in the morning, with router mounted outside and fine tuned. Many people in my area return the 5g after first month.
You will not get any support from Rain, They acknowledge I have a problem and escalated the problem telling technicians will come out, Well its 4 months later and have not heard from them again.
But I mounted it on a old dstv dish and now get 350mbs in good times, but sometimes still go under 100mbs in peak hours. The biggest problem with gaming is the upload sometimes fall to under 1mbs and then you get stuck.

Thanks for the feedback, seems its very dependent on tower location,

I took the plunge, worst case I cancel and return to fiber.

Seems you can cancel from portal.

I must say I'm very happy with the 4g uncapped, in my area its consistent above 8mbps with 20ms ping, sometimes get 12mbps.

So let's see lol

How long does delivery take?

How did it work out for you? Been on 5g in Cape Town for a month - no major hassles. loadshedding brought some weird connection issues that needed a router reboot or 2. downloads speeds vary considerably and the router is very sensitive. Been on mybb and there are endless complaints of guys service degrading up north.

service as i understand it is non existent and people are pulling their hair out. I have had the need for support yet...

so far so good, seeing that i didnt have fibre and was rocking a 10mbps adsl line..

I also now have vumareach fibre, but that is another story.

No complaints so far, Downloads between 200 - 300mbps, Ping is -+ 15ms in cs go, Sometimes you get the odd spike but not to bad, more than playable, Stability also solid so far. Again It really depends on area and tower it seems

As for support, Forget it, Non existent, I mean i couldn't even find a number on their web page, its actually really disappointing, No idea why they just don't care......This can actually mean their fall..... I sent an email on the 1st day of arrival, its now almost a month and no reply...I mean LOL.

Guys - Im having issues with rain - Just want to know any tips you guys have picked up

I get home do a speedtest and its fine 300+ Download 30mb Upload

I mainly used it to stream at my old house and worked like a charm - I moved to a new place (1.2 km from the old house )

Now at the old house i use to just put the CPE on the patio and it was fine

New house ( 900 Meters from the tower ) i have it on a pole on the roof facing the tower and around 6 - 7 ish it drops heavy . one speed test it will be smooth - 10 minutes later , horrible.

its like its fine then it dips heavy and then fine again

Im going to buy another pole and bracket to mount in the side of the house this weekend to see if it improves

Mine is still working 100% for past 2 months, seems I was lucky with the towers, as others have stated its really dependent on tower location, no matter if your close or not, it's about congestion etc, it's really a gamble, I finally got a email from rain 6 weeks later lol about a question I had, their support is really beyond pethetic. Gl

Also for me if doesn't matter if modem is outside or inside house, same speed for me.

Yeah I asked them what the stats should read on the details on the check my one mate told me my NR was too high its like just above 90

Dont waste money. I had a miracle yesterday and a Rain technician actually came to my house to replace a sim. I moved and set up the router(that is outside on pole) himself and we got great speeds. Last night at 7pm, speeds was 15mbs and ping so slow the kids could not game. Their towers are over crowded.

What tips I did get from him is that on the 198 ,,,,,, website where you can set things, you will see two sets of bars, one for 4G and one for 5G. You should try to get both those signals as high as possible, not one high and one low, so more of a balance.

They're also moving some 5G towers over from NSA to SA. Should help stability in the future.
