Hey guys

Do any of you know if one needs an appointment at the traffic department to do a vehicle change of ownership? Also, how long does the process typically take? I ask because I've had no luck finding info on this and this would be my first time going through the process.

You can find the forms to fill out here:
Thanks for that, I just skimmed through the sites and there's no mention anywhere about booking a slot or making an appointment. Does that mean I should just print out the forms, fill them up, and just rock up there?

Yes, you just walk in with the papers and you'll be assisted.

Did one in WC a few months ago. No appointment, spent around 4 hours waiting in the queue in the traffic department

The place I did my roadworthy test had the required forms, I got them from there and filled them in before going to the traffic department

Was busy with the roadworthy certificate today but hesitated to go to the traffic department because it often ends up taking most of my day every time I'm there. Will try my luck Wednesday morning. Thanks a lot for your input.

Much better to pay an agent to do this on your behalf. Try Cathy's, I've used them a few times before.

I've heard horrible complaints about them.

From losing papers, charging more after everything is done, all the way to being paid then getting called later for non payment because they didn't allocate the payment.

I wouldn't go near them.

Quite the opposite to my experience! I've used the branches in Wilro Park and Fairland without a hint of trouble from either one.

You can try Simone on (076) 478-6383

She helped change the ownership on an old 90s bike I bought off a colleague who didn’t have the paper work for it. And the bank he used back in the 90s to fund it had been absorbed into Nedbank for over a decade so finding docs was almost impossible.

Not sure if she still does it but she was a tannie who did this privately to make cash.

I defos recommend using a licensing agent - they do the whole process for you, costs a small bit of cash but worth it if you can afford it. We have one who does all our stuff at work as well as my personal cars

You need to also supply copy of ID card - back and front and then proof of address no older than 3 months, if its a company vehicle it must be a copy of the proxy ID, copy of business traffic register certificate, copy of CIPC docs and the NATIS obviously (I think also a company proof of address no older than 3 months as well)

If you’re not in a hurry, just walk in and get it done yourself, agents can save time, but make sure they’ve got a good track record if you go that route.
