So the other day, my PC started randomly black screening. I was quite worried about my gpu and whatnot until I realised (after turning up my volume) that my pc was still fine. Everything was on and working, except the monitor. I was jumping around and whatnot in CSGO but my monitor was just black.

Thought it might be the display port cable, but replacing it didn't seem to do much good. Then I decided to just close most of my startup programs to see if one of them would do it. Didn't have the time to manually troubleshoot every single one, but my monitor no longer black screens.

So here is a list of the programs I closed, anyone have any experience and think they might know the culprit?

F.Lux
Wallpaper Engine
MTG Arena Tool Tracker
Gigabyte RGB Fusion 2.0 (I suspect that this bastard is the culprit)
Malwarebytes

Not too many, and I personally reckon that it is definitely RGB Fusion.

What monitor , how old?

psu caps do go bad(due to heat). Monitor goes into power down = black screen
Monitor is the BenQ XL2720T. Quite old I think.

Damn, I really hope it isn't my PSU. I have ruled out Fusion 2.0 now as I uninstalled it and launched CSGO and my pc black screen again...

How might I know which caps, if any, need to be replaced?
I am no professional, but I will just look for the biggest caps (in voltage rating but usually also in size), the filter caps, and replace them.

This might help

Notice:

1. some are leaking
2. some are bulging on the top.

Both are bad.

Where might I get these kinds of caps from? Damn, do you know of anyone on the forum who might be able to do something like that? Even for a fee?

I usually buy from mantech

If anyone could suggest something that would be great. I only really play CSGO, and in normal Windows usage (word, powerpoint, general sitting around, etc) my monitor doesn't black screen. When playing CSGO though, I get about a round into a game and it just black screens.

Would this definitely suggest my PSU? IE - when my system starts pulling more power in games, that is when my PSU bugs out and my monitor black screens? I can still hear all the sounds of my game, chat in discord, etc etc. Just that the monitor goes black and I haven't figured out any other way to get it to turn back on outside of restarting my PC.

Thoughts please? Thanks guys!

I have a Gigabyte XP1200M PSU by the way. Super overkill for my build, I know. But I had it lying around and didn't want it to go to waste.

Something that you might want to try is use DDU to remove and then reinstall the graphics driver if you haven't already.

Otherwise I'm not sure what else you can do without replacing individual components to see which is causing the problem.

One last final edit that I thought I had mentioned earlier in the thread. This issue is STILL persisting even after I have closed or cancelled my startup programs. Fusion no longer exists on my PC, F.Lux gets completely closed, MTG Arena has been removed, and Wallpaper Engine gets completely closed. The only thing that remains open is my Malwarebytes

Should have probably started with a DDU, but didn't. Thanks man. Will definitely do this when I get home and see what happens.

Mind giving full system specs?

Another idea is trying a different GPU port however I doubt it would be a port issue

From my signature. Ignore all the random shit. Just want to add, my PSU is the Gigabyte XP1200M.

I have DDU'd my pc and reinstalled drivers. Decided to try CS, so jammed a few retakes and a deathmatch and no black screen. Then decided to try out a comp and it black screens? Is it possible this is a CS related issue?

Reinstalled CS, played Tomb Raider for 15 minutes, nothing. Played a full comp, nothing, played another full comp, black screen.

I once sold a GPU to a guy who would also got black screens, happened at random, tested it in my system and eventually also got a black screen, sent it in for RMA as it was a faulty GPU. May be different than what yo have got going on, I think the sound would still go on but the screen would go black, was a few years ago.

That's what's happening to me. I can still hear sound and do things in game and whatnot. Just no screen. I really hope it ain't the GPU.

Sounds like the same issue, I do remember he said it did that in csgo, I tested it with some COD game and eventually got the black screen with sound going.
Maybe chek your temps to see if their is no overheating, if so change the thermal compound, or perhaps underclock your gpu and see if the black screen issue clears up.

Run gpu stress tests for an extended time (OCCT / heaven benchmark on loop), keep an eye on temps / core clocks etc with msi afterburner / hwinfo, how old is that powersupply btw?

Also is your fps unlocked in csgo? (probably is, and running at like 400), lock it to 60 / 144 / vsync and see if it makes a difference with the black screens, I've had this once or twice, it's generally the gpu driver crashing / powersupply / gpu faulty
