Now I have to remember all the activation points for the secret areas. Man, I remember being the only person with a Voodoo 1 and getting to play the 3DFx Glide version.

How is this one different from Quake 1 RTX?
I guess the fact that it is official. Also, it's free if you already own it (I have it on steam). Here are the release notes:

RELEASE NOTES
  • Enhanced Graphics
Better lighting, new models, updated maps, and a dynamic shadow system headline the graphical features available in Quake. Individual features of the enhanced graphics can be turned on and off to your preference

  • Includes Original Expansion Packs
The two retail expansion packs, Scourge of Armagon, and Dissolution of Eternity are both now bundled with Quake, and are integrated into the main game. The downloadable expansion pack, Dimension of the Past, has also been upgraded and included

  • Includes Soundtrack
The iconic original soundtrack by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails is now included on all versions for the first time. The soundtracks for Scourge of Armagon, and Dissolution of Eternity are also included when playing those expansion packs

  • Brand New "Dimension of the Machine" Episode
Created for Quake's 25th anniversary, Dimension of the Machine is a brand new experience created by the MachineGames team. Continue your fight through brand new dimensions, figure out the secret to restarting the machine, and come face to face with an old foe

  • Free Optional Add-ons
Similar to our re-releases of DOOM (1993) and DOOM II, we will also be periodically releasing free optional Add-ons available to download in the in-game "Adds-on" menu. Our first Add-on is Quake 64, which includes the original alternate soundtrack by acclaimed composer Aubrey Hodges

  • Split-Screen Multiplayer
Quake includes 4 player split-screen multiplayer on all platforms, in both deathmatch and co-op modes. Fight against your friends, or with your friends in all five campaigns. AI bots are also available to play against in deathmatch mode

  • Online Multiplayer
Play custom matches on player-hosted servers, or hop into matchmaking and play on dedicated servers. Quake also now includes the extra levels Acrophobia, and The Edge available in deathmatch mode. Dimension of the Machine also contains all new deathmatch levels

  • Cross-Play Multiplayer
Play with friends no matter which platform they prefer. Cross-play is available on all platforms, so you can play Quake with everyone

  • Supported Languages
English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Russian

Man, this will forever be the "game that started it all". Grew up in a small town with like 0 video stores, arcades etc, and upon a trip to one of the places that had a mall, saw it in a computer shop being demo'd. The rest is history I guess

Also, been a diehard Trent Reznor fan ever since

Doom started it ALL! :)

Doom started it ALL! :)

I only got to play it around the same time when we purchased our first PC. Probably enjoyed both equally as much, but I can still remember wandering into that shop, eyes wide and jaw hanging open as zombies got mowed down by a nail gun. I mean, a nail gun... so edgy, so cool?!

Doom 95 on a DOS Machine with a black and grey monitor.
This was the shit back in the day.
I only got introduced to the quake series after I got my first pentium 3 pc.

Stalker 1 2 3 needs to be remastered
using Unreal Engine 5

We'd sneek into the Rhodes University Comp Sci labs at night with the original Doom demo stiffy discs. Generally didn't get evicted for misuse of university assets but so got to pull all nighters!

Lol I wish! Bought with my hard earned cash monies! The rich kids were buying the Voodoo 2 at that stage! :ROFLMAO:
I did not even own a pc, used to live at my friends house lol he had a sis 6326 graphics card or something.

This thread is bringing back so memories

I remember using the keyboard to play, then one day a friend who stayed in Cape Town came to visit and he showed me the console. It was like magic... he typed "+mlook" and bam, suddenly you could use the mouse to aim. This was groundbreaking shit

That was quite a nice discovery this morning
The soundtrack is epic!

Groundbreaking but at first I preferred my original setup (arrow keys for movement and A/Z to look up down) but of course it didn't take long to see the light!

quak1 and +mlook was the first time i played fps with mouse. I first pushed back and said it'll never catch on. Then got my ass handed to me by my cousin and was forced to give it a try :p

btw, I just tried this update out. 4k@120hz really does make this a nice update. Should try out some of the mods and see if they work with this. Also gonna be nice to set up multiplayer using steam invites

It's free on Bethesda as well if you purchased the original version there.

Crossplay!?!??!
Half my old LAN buddies have given in to the dark side (console) so this is a big win for me :D
