Hello there folks.
I have some ethernet cable that didn't come with boots and I'm wondering if there is a way to put 'boots' on them now?
The cables still work but it bothers me that it looks like this......likely my mild OCD kicks in when I see it.
I can't seem to find any way (examples online) of how to put a boot on a already crimped RJ45 cable end.
Any thoughts?

I added a jack on a cable earlier this year that didn't have one.
You don't really need a crimper if you do it carefully.

So I suggest cutting of the jack, get a new one, put the boots on and hack the jack back with a screwdriver.

Boots are annoying, especially those ones that also go over the clip. When trying to pull a cable out in a hard to reach place, now you still have to co-ordinate the clip release around the boot, no thanks, I just leave them all off these days

Hmmm....yes I've considered this approach. Although I'd feel better crimping it again properly if I was going to go this route.
Haven't crimped cable in many many years and don't have the equipment for it.

Crimping tooling isn't costly, but its unlikely I'd be using this often enough to be worth it.

De-cluttering is what lead me to this point....the alternative is to buy new ethernet cabling and then I'm stuck with cabling that just adds more to my clutter.

I agree, that clip release can be more trouble than its worth at times.
I've never had one of those molded clip/boot clear ends before on my ethernet; are these worth trying if I do get new ethernet cables?

Budget crimper and stripper at alot is R200. Redo the cables. 😄

If you have access to a 3D printer: (I can print for you if you pay shipping from Pta)

After reading up on it, I'm super keen to try clear heat shrink tubing.
This will double up as protection for the cable AND support my need to have some labeling underneath the shrink tubing.
Can someone point me to where I can get clear heat shrink tubing?

cut that shit in half, slide on a boot, re crimp cables, you now have two cables with jacks and boots. = profit.

Seriously, let it go or cut + re crimp (dont forget boots!) :)

I was a network clerk for about a year and the amount of cables i crimped, this was bound to happen sometimes, i found the best thing to do is shorten the cable a bit and recrimp while remembering boots.

But this clear heat shrink idea has me intrigued

I'm going to give this clear heat shrink a try before I attempt to cut/crimp (whilst remembering boots).
I don't have a heat gun but I've read using a hair dryer should work okay too.
Will report back on the results when I manage to find some heat shrink in my area.
=)

I've found boots are only really helpful when you're pulling the cable "backwards" so the clip doesn't hook on anything, and for looking pretty. For home use if it doesn't have one already then I really wouldn't bother.

slice boot longitudely on the underside, put it on, Put clear tape over it.

Forget about it.

Just ask a techie at your location to help you out. And then buy him/her a beer.

If you were in Pretoria I'd quickly cut and re-crimp for you. It's extremely easy with the RJ45 crimper.
