So my 11year old son decided his ps3 is not good enough anymore and want a ps4. I would just like to know should I buy him the normal ps4/slim or the pro. He doesnt play fancy games, minecraft, and sport games mostly. And we just have normal hd tv's, no 4k. So will there be any advantage in getting him a pro or will the normal ps4 be fine?

Let him learn to make do with what he has already.

Thanks, that is nobel. But I bought that ps3 before he was born, I dont play games, was for the blue ray player and to put my music and photos on in those days. So later when the boy came and old enough he started playing on it. So its old now and once or twice froze up, so probably near its end.
Secondly my boy save all his money and probably has enough or will save till he can buy one. So I thought of buying him one for chrismas, as the ps3 was just handed down to him, will see what prices look like on black friday or maybe buy him a used one.
Unfortunately Im not really into tech, so was just asking the question on ps4 vs pro, so I can make an informed decision.
He can use his own money then if he wants to upgrade to a ps5 one day

I like the pro because games perform a bit better on the pro, even if not on a 4k/HDR TV. But I'm not sure on what the price difference is these days. If its significant, its not worth it for just the slight bump in specs..maybe it is for a few hundred bucks more. I'm sure he'll be just fine with the slim, especially for games like minecraft.

To give my opinion re the question: Buy the NON pro ps4 OR hold off for a year or two for the PS5. The Pro is not worth it for what your intended use will be.

If he has any patience, the PS5 is supposedly coming out by end of next year.
IMO, if that's true, it would be a waste of money to buy a PS4 now.

Thanks for all the help, cant like your individual post, my tablet freez everytime I press that like button.
Will see if I can get the pro for good price, otherwise just go for the normal ps4
Yes dont think we will wait for ps5, probably going to take two years for prices to settle etc. These small kids dont go for the latest and greatest games and sometimes play a game just a few times. So as the ps3, the ps4 games you can now get cheap and by the hundreds at secondhand stores. So its easier for the kids when a new console has settled in the market and the hype is over. Buy the time he is bored with the ps4 he probably would go for a pc.

Another question/opinions.
Im starting to lean to a used ps4, except if there is a great black friday special. Becasue I think it will be silly to pay 6-8k now for a ps4 when the ps5 will probably cost close to that next year.
So opnion on where to buy. The pro seems secondhand for anything from 4.5 - 6k+. The normal ps4 a bit less.
Now at places like cash converters it seems the stardard price for ps4 is 3.5k and pro bit more to 4.5k. Only problem you have to phone around and wait till one of them got one in(specially the pro) and the normally sell everything seperate so you will just get the console and one controller.
But they do offer a 6 month guarantee.
So is that a better option or safer, I dont know how regular these things break or if there could be hidden faults that you dont pick up with a quick check when you buy secondhand privately?
