/hands over the tissues... :p

Should have it done this weekend, so check back then. Hopefully the lighting I have planned works out well

Thanks Lumpy!

Now onto a little bit of work that I got in this morning...

The old button bay cover thingamabob. See how horrible those holes were made? Ya, I'm a noob. For the life of me I couldnt get the piece to stop vibrating no matter how much I tightened the vice. The result was horrible hurricane shaped holes, that were too big, especially after I tried rounding the holes more with a file. You couldnt really notice it unless you were close by, but thats simply not good enough.

So take 2.... muuuuch better dont you think? The trick was clamping it down differently and having a backing piece. The problem was that with such thin metal, and such a big drill bit, the forces were too great for it while clamped on the sides. Having a backing piece also help stop the bit from wandering at the tip. Then having clamps on the front side of the cover also helped stopped vibrations. Still need to clean up the edges a bit, but its getting there

On to the USB ports... some careful Dremel work, and lots and lots of filing gets you (even if I say so myself) a perfect fit. The only thing left to do here is find some M3 hex screws, which seems to be impossible in SA. For now I'm going to leave it with these screws, and when I get some more stuff from MDPC I'll switch em out.

Thats all for now, time for some BF3, hehe. Check back tomorrow when I've hopefully got everything 100% done!

Did you pilot the bigger holes with a small bit(5mm) first? Problem I have found with drill sheet metal is that a hand drill is too fast, need a drill press which can be adjusted to a much slower speed.

Project looks awesome.

Thanks!

And yip, I tried everything the first time round :D
3mm -> 8 -> 12 -> 16
3mm pilot straight to 16
Slow, fast, medium speed and everything in between (I have a 32 speed hand drill), none of it worked. It simply wasnt clamped right

Fair enough! Looks like you tried everything...

Its not impossible at all. I have purchased a number of black, m3 bolts with Countersunk Hex Head, Socket Cap Hex Head as well as Button Hex Head head from Boltfast in Epping. I know the links that I have used aren't pointing to Boltfast, but Acorn Fasteners is part of the Boltfast group (or something like that) and their website is handy because it is an easy way to see what you can obtain from Boltfast. They might not always have what you are looking for in stock locally in Epping, but I'm sure you can phone and ask Epping to get stock from Joburg.

If you would find it helpful, I can take some photos later of the bolts that I got from them.

Gah, I was at boltfast (Milnerton) the other day and they said they don't carry them. Thanks for the heads up, I'll give them a call on Monday morning. :)

Just saw all the pics for the first time. Big up to you Archer! This is a legendary project.

ALL DONE :D Got one pic for you guys, the rest will have to wait a bit. Need to make sure they are as good as I can make em :D

YOH!!!!!!!! Dude................

Superb!!! Absolutely amazing!! Well done!!

Ok, final round! Although there is a small chance that someone with more skill than me will be taking some moar pics...

One last thanks to Landmark Computers for their help in getting the hardware inside my rig to be all that I wanted it to be.

Before all the rest, want to show that I swapped out those horrible screws for the USB ports. Looks much better :D

Now for that photo flood everyone is waiting for... Excuse my poor photography in some places, I still have a lot to learn!

:p Thanks guys!! Really glad you like it

Are you submitting this build to some of the modding magazines? :)

x2 dude.. this build is absolutely wicked.

I have absolutely no clue how to approach this, but I'll have a look around if you guys think it'll be worth it :)

I've tried this before as well and the best method I found was to clamp the thinner metal inbetween 2 thicker pieces of wood. Drill through the wood to get to the metal then through the wood at the back. Works almost perfectly.

Rig looks absolutely insane dude, very welldone.

this is one hell of a good looking case, checked the bit-tech comp seriously you had to come first, that Gymkhana Mod looks like ****!
