I do, for the most part (on more than one brand) however, not willing to disclose it in public and in writing.

All I can say is this. Up to distributor level pricing has remained largely in line with the base cost the card lands at. The big'ish margin is added on to that after the fact.

Make of that what you will.
Thank you for the info. I do think I have a good picture of what the current landscape looks like now. It would seem that local retailers that import their cards/proprietary brands direct from manufacturers...

Profit, blah blah, shortage, blah, volume vs single digits over time, shipping small batches, operating costs. Anyway, my annoyance level has been raised a few levels.

At least the picture is clearer. Thanks again.

It would be very interesting to know what new cards cost when they are landed in SA before the local distributors etc. tack on their bit. Does anyone have any solid data and is willing to disclose it?
Disgustingly low, as in I don't know why they bother. Probably the lowest margin items they do. If I were them I'd be investing the money in bringing in other products and leave GPUs out of it altogether for now.

I hear hard drives are good money these days, tell them to bring in more of those instead ;)

People cant afford GPUs cause people like OP are purchasing plenty and driving up demand.
How many cards you got there? Wanna sell any at MSRP?

Sad part being that the ones losing out the most is gamers with this ridiculous pricing. As all its doing is giving PC Gamers a bad name and driving those that want to have some fun to PS5s and helping the console side hurt our PC parts pricing even more..

Anyways, someday I will find an honestly priced GPU.........

I feel honored that you decided to use your first message to indicate how ignorant I seem.
Perhaps next time realise that this is the internet and not everything is a serious affair and sometimes (more often than not) I personally just shitpost for the sake of shitposting

Welcome to Smack Talk, you will soon learn the Way of the Shitpost.

Also it's 2021, we don't use the word "retarded" as an insult any more.

Nah, I’m sure he’s not being thaaat serious. He’s not wrong for preferring PC, I had a shot at a PS5 at R11k when I didn’t own a GPU and could’ve moved to console completely a few weeks ago. I decided just to keep hunting for cards… :/

I definitely don’t think it makes sense to buy a PC or a GPU now though. All rational thinking points to getting a console for the time being or until next gen on PC when pricing is hopefully more reasonable (not MSRP or anything). The 4080 would be a fair card at R16-18k I’d say.

I’m just gonna drop a bombshell on you guys. Unless you’re currently signed to a semi-pro/pro level Esports org, do you really actually need a PC unless you also do some sort of CPU-intensive work (I know @Thanatos_ZA definitely does).

Something I’ve realised over the last few months is that no matter what card I own, it’s either going to be too slow to justify not just getting a PS5 (*cough* *cough* 3060…), or too expensive to justify not just getting a 6800 XT, 6900 XT, or 3080 (*cough* *cough* 3070).

I had to quit comp gaming because of my ISP and the only thing keeping me on PC is the fact that I won’t be able to sell my G7 for a reasonable sale price and I don’t want to waste a bunch of money on games for the PS5.

I don’t really know if all this PC stuff is even worth the energy anymore. Is it really worth your time to wait for a fairly priced card? I know @Stravanosa is having a blast on his console.

In terms of performance GN found that, at equal frame rates and visual fidelity (i.e. Quality settings), the PS5 performs around the level of a 1060 - 1080. So if you already have higher than that, buying a PS5 isn't really an upgrade.

But for those who don't have anything to game on, then I agree, right now is a bad time to get into pc gaming.

With FSR and Mesh Shading, the consoles still will be able to form part of a modern ecosystem. I would argue that it would unfriendly difficult for someone with a 1060 to achieve a 4K experience on par with that of the PS5’s.

Xbox Series X is the sweetpoint price/performance/value wise. Feels more like a little powerful pc. If i had the money, i would buy it with a nice 43 uhd tv and begone with this stupid overpriced pc parts.

Just going with what GN said. Their conclusion was that the PS5 is not nearly a 4K 120Hz experience as is claimed. But hey, what do they know

3060 12Gb is faster than a PS5 though especially with DLSS.
Most times Digital Foundry tests with PS5 equivalent settings, the performances matches a RTX2060 or maybe a 2070.

Here are a few reasons why I like PC more than PS5 gaming :
- PS5 games are so pricey, like R1249 for a game.
- PC which has cheap sale games, sometimes good regional pricing on Steam, sometimes free games if you choose to sail the high seas
- PC has subscription services like Ubisoft+, EA Access Premier and MS Gamepass.
- PC is the only good option for 60+ Hz gaming, as the number of 60+ FPS games on consoles like the PS5 are few and far between.
- No 1440p support on PS5. No VRR or NVME expansion either right now.
- No browser on PS5. I mean, seriously. My phone from 10 years ago has a browser.

That being said, if I never upgraded to a 3080 and my old card died, I'd probably use the onboard GPU and buy a PS5 or a Series X+Gamepass for gaming until prices normalize by end 2022.
Because R18k for a 3060 right now is ludicrous.

I don’t think so either haha. I mean not even a 3090 can deliver a 4K 120Hz experience. Do you think a 1060 would do as good in terms of 4K 30/60 gaming?

That’s pretty much what I’m saying. If you had a chance at a 3080 or something when they actually made sense, or if you owned a GPU that proportionally increased in price, then it’s fairly safe to stay on PC. In a vacuum though, PCs still offer a far better experience, but the 3080 is going for around 3X what you can pick a PS5 up for.

This goes down to what do you want vs need. Do I want a 3090? Sure. Do I need it? No. I get the same gaming satisfaction on the ps5 vs when I had the 3070 or 6900xt. Yes in some cases it may not be a pretty or smooth as pc but thats just me looking for problems.

games are more expensive on ps5 but I have a US acc so I pay around the R800 mark per game. US also got specials e.g I got Valhalla and immortal for R1000 for the both Of them. So there are ways to go about it

in The end to really go into gaming on pc you Looking at R50k plus In today’s market vs R12k of ps5. you can make the call which is worth it to you

CS GO runs on my passively cooled GT 210, what need is there for a RTX 3090 at this point?

Extracted from media,

Unfortunately, the GeForce RTX 3060 D6 12GB LHR has turned up in South Korea via a few retail outlets, Retailers are selling it for 1393223,36 KRW. Given the current exchange rate, you're looking at $1250

I'm just going to stop talking and link you to the video:

I'm pretty sure we're on the same page here. The overall point is that if you have a powerful-ish recent-ish PC already, then a PS5 is not really much of an upgrade. But If you don't have that, then buying a PS5 makes more sense than buying an inflated GPU.

Arguing exactly which card will be slightly better than the PS5 isn't really meaningful as it depends on the game and setting.

I also agree with @Nyt Ryda, if my 2070S gives up the magic smoke, I won't buy a new GPU right now.
