Premier Pro editing desktop

You never mentioned what type of video you edit because based on the setup you mentioned even though its old, a 3770k should have zero problems editing 1080p timelines h264. IF you're editing 4k or h265, thats where the limits kick in in terms of scrubbing footage but if you got the time, convert the files to cineform or pro res and that system should generally be okay to edit and even grade. Latest version of premiere allows hardware encoding and a 1080ti is supported so your render times will drop down by a lot. I read you already switching to Ryzen which solves the problems I mentioned and good to see you going for 16gigsx2 of ram. more cores comes handy when using vfx or doing a lot of overlay work on a timeline of 2hrs plus or a fast cut style of edit. also make sure to Allocate 28gigs in the settings of premiere ( or whatever the max amount is to reserve, dont remember off the top of my head) and you should have a pleasant overall experience. Editing off a ssd also helps a ton when scrubbing but is generally okay when the footage lives on a 7200rpm HDD drive when editing. Premiere is not that demanding as people on YouTube make it out to be though. Congrats on your new build and hope it all goes lekker!

I stay around the corner from you buddy, happy to help you install the cpu and bring some of my Thermal Grizzly with if you are okay with it!
you area true gentleman ! this is a great idea.
will send you a message when iv got it all good to go.

Do you have plans for you old parts?

so far this build has gone over the budget i had so i think i will try sell the old Mobo CPU RAM and case as a bundle. And hope i can recover some of the costs.

thanks ja my editing varies alot from job to job. But mostly always has alot of overlays and AE comps in it. My system really is not that bad BUT scrubbing and applying effects in timeline can sometimes kill quite abit of time if you add it all up. I have my Premiere set to the max allowed ram. Really looking forward to having the use of more ram and more cores.... But i guess the true effectiveness of the upgrade will be seen in the jobs to come...

As stated above my budget is currently maxed out, so id like to avoid shedding more money right now if i can. That being said i dont want to stuff up any of my new build by skimping...

Two point of advice needed please:

PSU
I need to make a call on what PSU to use. I have 2.
Gigabyte Part # GZ-EMS65A-C1 - 650W
Antec VP500PC - 500W

My 1080ti claims to need 600W from what iv read.
Which PSU is better to use for now?

CASE FANS
I picked up a used Cougar MX330 ATX Mid Tower Case with 1 fan in foe R200
My current case - Luxo M10 has 6 fans in i could use, BUT they are about 8/9 years old. Do fans have a life span should is there a good reason why i should not use the old fans in the new case ?

Which PSU are you using right now? Because the one that is working in your current build will probably work as well for the new build.

I agree 500W is a bit light for a 1080Ti. I don't have any experience with Gigabyte PSUs but it's probably a rebranded OEM PSU anyway. The fact that it is 80+ bronze is reassuring though so it should be fine to use.

Fans do have a lifespan but as long as they are working there is no reason to replace them. Just make sure they are spinning quick enough that you can feel the breeze on your hand.

Did my build today....
This is as exciting as it got....

Mobo would not do anything more than turn on everything... After a few attempts it won't even do that [emoji88]
Now Mobo seems DED....
Bought it on takealot. Can these things be returned?

If possible get a cheapo SSD and set it as your media cache and scratch drive. I use a 500GB SSD it it gets full real quick if you dont clean it often, but you dont need such a big SSD, a 64GB will also do, just set premier to clear it once it reaches X amount of space.
If you work with 4k and you find your system is struggling, especially when doing multi-cam projects then I would highly recommend you work with proxies.
If you have not worked with proxies here is a nice tutorial on setting them up.
Happy editing!
