Hi guys

So, Someone's made me a trade offer. They're offering the following:

Intel G4560 (2C 4T @3.5GHz) - Kaby Lake
MSI Z270-A Pro Mobo
2 x 4gb Ram (Not sure what kind, assuming unbranded)

What I have:

4th Intel Core i3-4170 (2C 4T @ 3.7GHz) - Haswell
Gigabyte Z97P-D3H Mobo
2 x 4gb Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz Ram

They basically wanna trade their CPU MOBO and RAM for mine.

I have an RX570 4gb GPU, and at the moment my CPU is bottlenecking it on games like Fortnite (don't judge me lol) so I'm not getting the best FPS I could be getting.

I thought about upgrading my CPU to an i5 (4th Gen) but with this offer I'm wondering if you guys think it would be worth the trade?

Possibly Upgrading the G4560 in the future?

What do you think?

Thanks :D

Your CPU is better so if that is the bottleneck I would not do it.

Should this thread be moved to smack talk?
Hey bud. Thank you for that, I appreciate it.

Regarding whether or not it is be moved to smack talk or not, I'm not sure. I'm still fairly new on carb, and wasn't sure where to post it. If you or @mod think it would be better to have it there, please feel free to move it.

I'd just also like to add in a bit more of my line of thinking.

The way I see it, 4th Gen is getting old now. It's what, 5+ years old now?

Is it therefore worth spending R1500-R2000 on a fetter 4th gen cpu, such as a 4690, 4690k 4670, etc. Whichever I can get for around that price.

Or would it not be better to do the trade and then spend the same amount of money or a little more) to upgrade the G4560 to say a i3-7100 or i5-7500?

Keeping in mind that I'm on an extremely tight budget.

There's also a third option, of trying to sell my current cpu mobo and ram, let's say i can get R1500 for it, maybe a little more, and then saving up the extra R3200 to buy something like this:

This would take me some 6 months or so to save up for.

In your opinion, what do you think the best course of action would be?

Again, thanks for your response, i do appreciate it

In my opinion the Gen, make, model and all things like it does not matter against actual benchmarks but if you are looking to upgrade your idea makes sense.

However note that the Z270 mobo's are close to being end of life and only support up to 7th Gen Kaby lake where we are at 9th gen since October 2018. That being said on Carbonite I've regularly seen sellers selling old 4th gen as an example so if you dont mind upgrading here that is not a bad idea.

At the end of the day I would just upgrade to a 4th gen i5 as the difference at the same price range between 7th gen and 4th gen not being all that much at 3%. Note that with higher end GPU's your bottleneck will be RAM speed (4th gen max is 1600MHZ), PCI Lanes etc of the 4th Gen but we are talking about GTX1080's here.

Bro. Wow. Thank you for your answer.

It makes total sense. I think the fact that I'm not a heavy gamer at all, ie I'm not playing all the latest AAA titles, literally only fortnite at the moment, along with your response, has swayed me to sticking with the 4th gen. I'll have a look at getting an i5 or i7.

Just for reference, I'm not looking at getting a 1080. I think the highest I would go would be the 1060 6gb or rx580 8gb.

Leaving towards the 580 though as i do personally prefer amd.

Really though, thanks again for all the effort, i really do appreciate it.
