BMW Riders UNITE!

Riders of inferior machines, Kneel before us! Bwhahahaha

PS. To all the snowflakes - Is joke, calm down. :)

Also, If I recall correctly BMW is discontinuing the RnineT racers? Could be wrong but if so then you are going to have a rare-ish bike. I think I have only seen 3 in person.
Correct bud. Racer has been discontinued. From what I know, there are only 58 Racers in SA. So quite a scarce bike. But in no way am I riding in to "preserve" it's condition. I bought it with the intention of enjoying every second on the bike. Simple as that.

Are you by default classified as a racer due to the bikes name? You know it is very irresponsible to go that fast "racing" other people, especially on 2 wheels.

so what you are saying is its better to do this on 1 wheel instead of 2?

Where would I ideally look for a track suit?
I normally get good service from Moto mate rivonia, you can go check if they have ?

I miss my SV1000s and Buell XB9SX....
I fully understand missing the SV, but was the Buell really that good that you miss it ?
Never been on one, so I don't understand it. Just from what I know it had a harley engine and they weren't really powerful engines ?

Any recommendations on what to look out for? I'm yet to go to a track day...

To be honest, I am the worst person to answer that question.
My bike riding consists of staying below the power band 80% of the time on public roads.

@Wacko_ZA would be much better suited to answer your question.

The Buell was just different, short and quick, just lekker, a real head turner as you dont see them often at all.

Thanks @ovisser1

Gee thanks @ovisser1
@Erohann there is nothing better than doing some track time. its the best place to bond, learn, and enjoy these machines, in their actual natural habitat. Where are you going if I may ask?

If you have never been on track it can be a damn scary experience, but, take it easy, ride at your own pace, and within your comfort zone. there is no shame in starting in the slowest group of the day, and working your way up.

Pick a skill you want to practice on track for that day, be it trail breaking, body position and movement, gearing, looking trough corners, lines etc etc, what ever you choose, stick to that for the day, but only one thing ok?

Redstar raceway are amazing, in with every bike day they have marshalls, usually experienced racers ready to show you lines, brake markers etc. they have a nice debrief with you after every session and give pointers.

Make sure your girl is mechanically sound, clean and ready to party..that includes stopping, and LOTS of rubber left for grip. dont forget to use a good quality chain lube.
Initially, run road tire pressures, you will most probably not be fast enough to over heat them.

If you can, trailer your bike there and back, that way you can have a chill drive there and back, and if something goes wrong you still have transport.

DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS! nie f$k#n coke nie, but proper fluids like powerade/energade or even just water. you will be surprised how much a track can take out of you.
Lastly, but not least GEAR! as much as you have, or can afford. initially for the first day a good jacket, proper riding jeans, boots gloves and helmet will be enough, but if the bug bites you, and it will right @PandaAttack1 you are going to want to get a suit, one or 2 piece, etc.

If you have insurance, make sure to have a chat with them and see if they cover track days, and which ones, it could prevent a lot of hassles in the end if something does go wrong.

THE MOST IMPORT PART: HAVE FUN!

Where would I ideally look for a track suit?
Nexo and MASS make custom suits, at more or less the same price you would pay for a pre made one.
Bike kings, world of motorcycles and fire it up all sell top class suits, but they are expensive. they are an investment.
