Our suburb has been trying unsuccessfully for a few years to get fibre installed. There are a few reasons why fibre has not materialised, one of them being lack of a proper plan of action. I understand that the main thing is the expression of interest has t o be sufficient for an FNO to come and install.

Is anyone willing to share their successful proposal to see what information is required and how to structure the report?

Any other technical information will also be appreciated.

Walk around your area and ask everyone to go and express their interest on the VUMA site that is literally what i did.

Hi Caliph,

I am in the same boat as you for the last 2 years, and we maybe living in the same area. I have contacted Vumatel, Neotel, Vodacom, Openserve and a host of ISP's. I have made some headway with a smaller ISP, and they should be coming to do a survey in the area to gauge interest. But it is a long process even if people are interested in the area.

Also doing what @PSYCHOsmurfZA has done for telkom with the online survey. But I know people want something but if its not that important to them they just dont fill it.

I will you a PM and we can chat more about this.

Many Thanks
Stampede

@Caliph have you considered a wireless option?

Yes, I have considered it. The setup cost is high as well as the monthly subscription fees, when compared to ADSL. Also the towers are congested in my area ie. pathetic speeds on all networks on the LTE option.

Avoid vuma like the plague. DM me and I'll send you the contact details for the right guy to speak to at Metrofibre

Ah shucks sorry to hear bud.
Sounds like pike is gonna hook up the whole of Durbs with fibre for you lol

@Caliph Greetings!

To answer your story its all about uptake, we are a small ISP working with an FNO in Durban and have been pushing for certain areas. It took a whole year but Glenwood and Surrounding areas now have trenching going on along with a pretty fast rollout time.

Overport is a weird area to cover, same as Musgrave as there is currently fibre all around, but broken into pieces. Mostly dominated by Vumatel and Openserve.

To make things easier for our own project sake we have put Overport in with the Asherville (Sydenham) project. But we have only seen an uptake of around 120 signups, which is pretty great, but not going to be a big priority when there are over 1000 signups for areas like Glenwood and the others.

Also. Sorry, I didn't see this sooner, I have been living on Mybroadband and not here recently. Hopefully once our Glenwood project is off the ground, we can start working on other smaller areas.
