Have a looksy, more than your ballpark figure though :(

Hi. Retailers seem to be getting stock. I managed to get one this week and if I can be completely honest, there is not much new stuff that a PS4 cannot do if you own one. I would recommend that you wait and pay the RRP.
For real.

Also Takealot, Game, Koodoo etc have each had stock in the last week or so. Just keep an eye on all the stores and the relevant forums and you'll get one at RRP, OP :)

100% agree. Be patient, 2 exclusives aren't worth 4k over msrp.

There were quite a few lots during the week exactly in your area for R14000-14500 for a sealed PS5 and you can't buy it for R16000 since 14 December?

FNB has stock as well on their store.

I second on recommending to wait a while. Those games will always be there, ignore the FOMO. PS5 is going nowhere for 7 years, so you'll have plenty opportunity to buy one new or second hand. Wait for bugfixes, better games and so on.

The FOMO hype and tulip mania dies when the production supply chain catches up to demand, which is inevitable. Couple that with more people losing their jobs from December lockdown etc, and the general economy, soon you will see these things going for sale for R6000 to someone who has hard cash ready and waiting.

I agree with a lot of what you said but "soon" and R6000 is

Remember half the price is actually retailer rent seeking margins. In Canada it's 500CAD which is a hair under 6k. And that's at a retail shop. They all come from one factory in China. The shop is making money on that, so are the distributors and so on, notwithstanding the factory (Sony) itself. Soon you see that the PS5 probably costs R3000-4500 to make. They sell millions and technology has progressed enough for things to become dirt cheap. You'd be surprised but all electronics cost way less than you think. It really is down to logistics and margins.

Hence, youll see that R6000 price second hand sooner than you think. Also weird how PS4 Pro was R6500 and now it's suddenly R8500 at Makro. Xbox One S was R3499 now it's like R5499. They are taking advantage of the lockdown, nothing less. When the economy inevitably tanks they will be begging for sales but no one will have the cash so they will be forced to reduce prices.

Source: I studied Business Management and Entrepreneurship and have my own businesses, so I know exactly what product supply chains actually look like, as well as marketing tactics, artificial scarcity, and supply and demand for price setting.
