So what is everyone using to keep track of their expenses?

At the moment I'm using a Google Sheet (which I know is plebian level) but would like to upgrade to something a bit more organized and maybe have the ability to save up for something.

I've gone through a lot of apps and stuff, the latest being 22seven but haven't found anything worthwhile that works for me. A lot of the budgeting gadgets I find too rigid or difficult to work or just way overcomplicated so would be great to get some insights and suggestions.

I’ve been using GoodBudget. Plenty flexible enough for me and being able to access it via a website is a bonus.

Excel.

Really easy for basic formulas and what not, I don't need any fancy app, literally look at what you are getting charged for on your internet banking, make an excel spreadsheet, look at how you can improve your monthly expenses and repeat, literally so straight forward, I feel it just works though.

22 seven works and it's somethimg you can tailor make to suit your personal budget...only issue is when ot needs to link with 3rd party credit card accounts...not working 100% yet...my experience though.

Same with me. I use Excel and it works. Not particularly fancy but it gets the job done.

I've signed up for 22seven more than once and tried really to like it and get used to it but never could.
Just feels like I'm managing 22seven the whole time instead of the budget, income is also very erratic at the moment and that also screws around but thats been my experience. The 3rd party link actually work great for me lol

Yes its a mission in labeling each expense or debit from your account but once its done a pattern will emerge and you can then manage the expenditure much more better. The graphical representation also gives one a good idea of how the budget is managed. Build as you go along...dont discard it...let it grow on you.

Tried 22seven more than once. Just felt like more effort than it should.

Can't go wrong with Sheets or Excel. Suggest you look at some of Stealthy's work? (more than just personal budgeting)

If you bank with FNB, the app now has a smart budget function under NavMoney that's quite cool. Just a bit slow sometimes. You can either set a budget or just see what you spent money on in preset categories.
