PC Upgrade advice from 4th to 12th Gen

IMO:

In terms of D5 boards, the Taichi is the only sensible option in ZA right now. The 12900KF for R10700 is what I'd personally buy being me (actually the 12900K), but the i7 is objectively much better value. If you can, try to ask a distributor for old stock as chips manufactured in January onwards don't support 512. I have the ASRock AVX512 BIOS saved to my Onedrive because I know they're going to pull it. In terms of RAM, you can have your pick between the Caster's and the HyperX Fury kits. If you overclock then I'd suggest the HyperX kit for the Hynix ICs. If not I'd just grab the Caster kit because it's likely going to have a better quality bin of Samsung or Hynix chips depending on which you get.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I have my heart set on the i7 12700k (or non-k ) even if it's overkill. I am bit irrational on this front.

I'm also a bit of a Nvidia/Intel chad. I can't help myself

I think DDR4 should be fine, I've adjusted the RAM and MB. I'm already maxing out my 16GB currently with big datasets.

I think I need an M-Atx board for the Lian-li case.

Someone said new PSU's are coming out soon but I want to purchase this in the next few days.

These are what I'm taking from the above comments. Is it worth paying the 3k extra?

The only adjustment I'd make is the MSI Z690 Pro-A. It can be had for R4600 or around there.

I was thinking DDR5 just for the future proofing even if the benefits are minimal.

This is a bit of a fallacy, there is no guarantee that alder lake will have future chipset support to use faster ram, or that successor cpu generations after raptor lake will be supported on the current 600 series chipset, or future boards will support alder lake cpus vice versa. How many intel 6th generation core series cpu provide support for ddr4 3200+? The current performance difference between high end ddr4 and monetary equivalent in ddr5 means that by the time you need an upgrade due to replacing ddr4, your ddr5 equivalent system won't be far behind to be needing replacement as well, future proofing will only occur if you pay the price premium today for the best ddr5 ram on offer now (meaning cash is not an issue, and then constantly upgrading ram for the best available).

I mentioned the PSU stuff as a reminder for the future but yeah if you're building soon it's not something you need to worry about right now.

You can get the B660 aorus elite in DDR4 and will cost slightly more than the other option B660 option but better overall board unless there's something the prime gives you the elite doesn't.
The slower ram should be perfectly fine.
Pretty sure the O11 lists e-atx so bigger than standard ATX so no need to go MATX in that regard but also the MATX boards are cheaper than the full sized.
