PC Games with HDR

Not sure, if im using Windows or Nvidia colour management. Will check and give feedback.
You will be using Windows Colour Management by default. You have to manually switch to Nvidia: Nvidia Control Panel > Change Resolution > Use Nvidia Colour Settings. Test RGB full but also test YCbCr (422 and 444) to compare.

Okay, was/is/am running Nvidia color, YCbCr 444. Destiny 2 a no go. Cant get HDR to enable anymore.

Try 422 as well please. When Shadow Warrior 2 launched there were reports of only 422 working. I’ll install Destiny 2 tonight and test everything as well.

@Doom5003 I installed Destiny 2 and tested it for HDR. I’m getting pretty beautiful HDR without any tweaks. The opening scene is a great HDR showcase - the spectral highlights are prominent in the sparks flying around the screen. The wide colour gamut also shines through on HDR in this game. I’m using a Samsung CHG70 on Nvidia’s RGB full setting.

The CHG70 auto switches to HDR when HDR is active in-game and then auto switches out of HDR when the game closes to desktop. So no manual switching which is pretty cool given Windows abortion of HDR implementation atm.

Added Redout. Removed Rise of the Tomb Raider - it doesn't have HDR on PC. It was promised but never implemented.

Tested ME: Andromeda - the HDR implementation is excellent. Edit: HDR activates automatically once selected in game. So no need to activate manually in Windows.

Thanks, ill test it on 422 and RGB full.
I notice that if I go to info on TV (MU7000) whilst ingame it shows HDR, so it definitely pics up on the HDR signal, yet no HDR.
But I did test it for a few hours and found that there were moments where it seems HDR goes "on" for a few seconds and then back to normal (no HDR).
Switching from PC to Console on TV changes nothing for me.
Will test other titles when I get a chance to maybe see if this is only a Destiny problem, or something else.

This sounds like it may be TV related. Have you checked the HDMI inputs on the TV are activated for HDR? That setting on the TV needs to be specifically set to “on”.

Just something to consider, the MU7000 is not really a HDR TV - even though it is marketed as HDR. I know that TV well. I had one for a few months and ended up selling it because it couldn’t meet my expectations for HDR (not even the entry where HDR becomes noticeable as eye candy - usually 10 bit wide colour gamut with 600 nits peak window). The MU7000 we get is known as the UA (African) MU7000 which is the same spec as the UE (European) MU6100. It’s an 8 bit panel without wide colour gamut and peaks at 350 nits (even the 2% window peaks at around 350). So basically it can receive an HDR signal but it can’t do anything with it. I mentioned in an earlier post how I dislike the way the entry level 4k TVs are marketed as HDR when they really are not. But HDR aside, the MU7000 is probably the best entry level 4k TV in SA.

Coming back to your HDR issue though. Start by testing on console first. Console HDR is impeccably implemented. Once you know you are getting a stable HDR signal then test on PC. Destiny HDR on PC (and PS4 Pro) is decent and can serve as a good testbed while you’re troubleshooting.

@Madala_ZA, the thing is, it worked on Destiny till I think about 2 weeks ago. Only played again after 3 major updates, Destiny 2, Windows 10 and Nvidia. So not sure if any of them might have caused this.
Since I don't have any of the "new" consoles" all I can do is test with more games.

Try these steps. If none of these work I would consider a warranty claim on the HDMI ports on the TV:

1. Double check that the HDMI inputs on the TV are still set to HDMI UHD Colour on for each HDMI input - you'll see radio buttons on that menu.
2. Test Destiny 2 for HDR on each HDMI port on the TV - I can't remember if the MU7000 has 3 or 4 HDMI inputs.
3. Test with a different HDMI cable - it must be a Premium cable with 18gbs throughput. Test on all HDMI inputs on the TV.
4. If none of the above brings back HDR then you must test on a console to make sure your HDMI ports are actually working - you are welcome to borrow my PS4 Pro to test (pm me if you want to - I have some HDR games installed).
5. Failing all the above, I would venture to say that your TV has a hardware issue on one or all of the HDMI ports.

FYI: For HDR content on the MU7000 - always set your backlight to maximum and the colour space settings to auto.

Ill have a look into testing different ports and different cables.
Of note, all HDMI are set to UHD Colour.

Cool - I just saw now that you're not in Jhb so the offer to use my PS4 Pro to test on your TV won't work :( hopefully you can find someone where you are who can help. I would make a plan to do the console test asap as HDR is stable on console.

Added Sea of Thieves to the list. Found this on Reddit about how to get HDR working on the game: Most people are under the impression that this game doesn’t support HDR on PC. Well, apparently it does and it's just a bug. Got it to work in 4K by first switching to 1440p and then alt-tab out and back in. Then switch back to 4K. For some reason it wouldn’t work without alt-tab to refresh the screen.

Sometimes when my pc restarts the colour is all off, everything is so green
Hdmi is rubbish?

Does it fix itself after a few seconds or do you have to reboot? First thing is to change the HDMI cable and see if it continues. To safeguard yourself just get a 18gbs hdmi cable.

Added AC Odyssey, BF5, COD BO4, Darksiders 3, F1 2018, Forza Horizon 4, Hitman 2, Monster Hunter World, MXGP Pro, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Wreckfest. Pretty sure there's more games to add. Also tested BO4 HDR.. what a shit show (will look into it more).

I updated the list of HDR games for PC, seems PC is getting more HDR love over time.
