Howsit guys,

Anyone have any info on the new leave law that was passed?
I think I might have read that a major portion will be paid from UIF. Any idea if that is true, and if so, how do I go about claiming? Also, any clue on how long waiting period for payment and so on?

Thanks

Gov cant force companies to pay you for the leave, thus... you claim the 10 days unpaid from UIF directly. there are 4 forms you need to get from them and fill, dont have my file here to give you the codes.
Max you can get paid is like 5k odd
1. get the forms
2. get your company to fill out their bit
3. go to department of labour and process claim.

im stuck @ number 3

Could you please send me the forms when you get a chance? It'll be highly appreciated.

And the department of labour bit has to be done physically or is there an online process?

form you need to supply:
ui-2.9
ui-2.8
ui-2.7
ui-19

Google those codes to find them.
one your bank fills in.
2 your company does.

then you have to physically go in to make a case, no online for paternity yet.

R5000 max? That doesn't sound right. Where did you get that info?

This says upto 66% of the salary, the "upto" part is worrying. What you need to know about the 10 days paternity leave for SA's working dads

Also According to this - Parental leave – employee rights as from 1 January 2020:
The 10 consecutive days parental leave are calendar days, not working days. For example, if the child is born on a Tuesday, the father may take leave from that Tuesday until the following Thursday.
Part of me is wondering if it isn't just better to stick to the 3 days family responsibility and not have to go through the hassle.

66% of the "maximum income threshold" I found a figure of 205 grand per year somewhere and did the math.
eg:
How much?

The benefits payable will be 66% of their earnings, subject to the maximum income threshold - for benefit claims it is currently R17 712.00 per month. (The contribution ceiling remains at R14 872.00)

17712 /21.67 (days in month) X 10 X 66% = 5k odd

i used the BCEA Earnings Threshold – R205 433.30 per annum

5grand from gov is still worth a few days of hassle

Understood and now how do they calculate those 10 days, say I don't work weekends, so I'm technically off for only 8 days or 6 if the child is born on a saturday? They must need some sort of leave form from your employer surely? And if my leave form only says 6 days then I get R3k... ?

Jeez I feel sorry for folks who don't have jobs that pay them for taking leave for this kind of thing.

It's such an easily overlooked benefit.

Not to mention that 10 days are still stupidly little and having it as calendar days is just utterly useless on top of that.

One of the forms your company fills in states the dates you are off and the pay you received during those days, nil being the amount.

Ill have to wait and see what I get paid when I finally make my case.

Any news, with everything going down I might be visiting UIF for another reason as well as this, so maybe worth the headache
