So it feels like I'm getting the run around but could be wrong. I'm using Sonic Wifi (20 down/10 up) - Been with them close to a year and this is my first real hiccup now.

Since Monday I could game anytime during the day, between 7 - 10 I couldn't at all, after 10 then no problem, I would get dc'd the whole time between those times. My internet speed was running at about 5mb on 20mb line in beween as well then after that boom, everything back to normal.

I complained about it then Thursday they fiddled with some settings and it actually turned out worse cause when I wanted to play online outside of those hours like bfore I just got hectic ping spikes and packet loss. So since then I can't play online at all. (Which is what I basically do for fun after work).

They said they then reverted everything back to normal and still can't play due to high ping spikes, etc. I get a message again today saying the reason for all this is due to Corona, there is so much more people on the internet and Netflix, etc is using so much data in SA that my latency is shot 24/7.

Is this really possible, it just happend out of the blue last Monday and just got worse.

have to say, my internet has also been very sluggish

also read somewhere (not knowing how true) that international usage has gone up by a lot due to Corona

did find though that when I switch ISP, tings do get better but then last night, I encountered it being the same so 🤔

I see, I just couldn't think that it was affecting us as much though, I could understand in the EU but not here.

You play anything online perhaps where you can see a change in latency/packet loss? Strange that some of my friends have no issues at all, hence why I don't understand that been the reason for my problem.

Had sonic for one month and my internet was amazing. Up until the point at which we had an unfixable internet issue.

It is pretty easy to test where the issues lie with your connection. usually you will have issues between your CPE and the Gateway for that net. (first hop of WISP) but given the times that you have issues there is likely a much smaller pipe further up the route that is getting congested, pretty common for WISP's in our country.

The only real way to win this fight is to sleep during peak and game during off peak, as no one will expand capacity if they do not have to :)

What was the actual problem after the 1st month?

Unfortunately now its 24/7. Well the internet speed is consistent again so have no issues there anymore but can't play online at anytime now.

Yes, during the first two or three weeks my connection was absolutely mad. I'm talking 0ms jitter connecting to CPT CS servers with like 18ms flat. It was absolutely stupid. I've never played so well in CS since and I'm a far better player now than I was back then. But that connection was just too unreal. Then all of a sudden around the month mark I had been experiencing an issue for a week. My connection would die randomly and stay dead for a significant amount of time before spontaneously returning. I alerted Sonic and for a week we battled back and forth upon which they asserted that it wasn't an issue on their side. Truthfully when they first came to install they did warn me a tree was intermittently blocking my line of sight so I assumed it was probably that and as they had no means of repairing my connection (their words), I cancelled after my first month. Super sad but ey. That connection was absolutely crazy while it lasted though. Never have I ever had connection that stable. Felt almost like my wireless link was only a few ms off of their fibre link at the tower. I mean 18ms to a CPT MM server on CS is basically fibre. Still blows my mind what that felt like to play on.

@AffectFPS I'm also been shocked that I have managed to have great internet for a year with almost no jitter and such low stable ping. The thing is I am the only 1 to have their service in Worcester and I'm about 1.2km from their server room where the fibre connects. So I have great line of site to them, nothing in the way at all. That is used for a business so it basically leaves me the only person running with them in this area, that's what I find strange and I can't really compare to other users as I'm solo this side.

That makes complete sense to me. That's why I signed with TWK at the start of last year when my Amobia contract expired. TWK have very few users compared to other wireless providers in Stellenbosch so my connection is basically never congested. I do sometimes suffer at the hands of tower outages and normal network issues but other than that it's been fairly smooth sailing. The connection isn't amazing but it's definitely usable for online gaming. Far more than Amobia at least. I'm really glad you are having such a good experience though. Wireless broadband isn't bad but I sometimes think providers stretch their bandwidth capacity and cause congestion at the benefit of producing better margins. But that's just my opinion and I have a friend who has some insider info on that but can't really elaborate much further.
