Hi Boys 'n Grills,

I'm reaching out to the overclocking gods about the possibility in overclocking my current PC.

Motherboard: ASRock Z270 Taichi
CPU: Intel i7 7700 (non-K)
Cooler: Raijintek Triton 240 Water Cooled
GPU: Galax GeForce GTX 1060 6GB EXOC
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws (2x8GB) 2666Mhz
PSU: Cooler Master MWE Gold 750W

I suppose the rest doesn't really matter.

Currently everything is running standard, GPU and CPU haven't attempted to be overclocked, with the exception of me trying out the XMP Profile in my BIOS once. Don't think the PC liked it, so I reverted back straight away.

I know there's no actual method of overclocking non-K CPUs, apart from adjusting the BCLK in the BIOS. I've read multiple forums where people say it's safe and some state it isn't, so I was wondering whether a trustworthy South African could offer some advice in the matter, specific to my setup.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hey man. 1stly can I ask why you would want to overclock your CPU exactly? I don't advise messing with bclk especially if you're a beginner. Your GPU would run into a bottleneck before your CPU. So best advice is to overclock your GPU only. I usually like to start at 100mhz on the core. 400mhz on the ram. Set fan speed to 100 percent and then work from there

I suppose there's no actual reason; just trying to get the best out of my machine. I mean, my previous i7 2600 (non-K) ran at 3.6GHz stock, so having a much later gen (albeit non-K) running at the same core speed, seems a bit underwhelming, no? I understand the speed ratios don't compare exactly, but yeah, was just wondering.

@ViVception could you please move this to overclocking, friend? ^_^

2600 ran at max turbo 3.8ghz, 7700 does 4.2ghz on turbo, thats plenty.

Why did you get the non K if you wanted to overclock it?

Anyway, id just sync all the cores and try and get some more out of the ram.

i watched youtube videos with J'stwocents how he overclocked a Ryzen 7 CPU
i took that information and gradually overclocked my Ryzen5 2600 and yea super happy with the performance
4.15ghz would like to push it closer to 4.3 or even 4.5ghz but will need a better cooler for this.

started with multiplier - check the gains
modified the ram - checked the voltages
made sure all is cool

boooya happy
not with its trouble shooting

Dram faulty
having to remove all Ram sticks from slots and only placing 1 in A1 slot
reboot machine
switch off machine install the 2nd stick

pc back to working condition.

I got the entire PC as part of a bundle on Carbonite. I haven't tried the Turbo option, to be honest (will need to find it in the BIOS, I assume). I suppose that's the first thing I can check out when I get home (once load-shedding passes).

Thanks!

Good luck with that lol. Ryzen CPUs generally don't do over 4.2 - 4.3ghz no matter how good your cooling is

You should be able to OC all cores to 4.2ghz (your max turbo boost frequency.) The BCLK can only be oc to around 102%, anything above that causes systems not to boot.

ive seen a Benchmark of 4.5ghz

probably just for a OC title n put back to a safer 4.1ghz wateva but cant be certain.

Hmmmm must have been with high voltages yes
