HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

Don't see much of an issue with Sennheiser's design choices there. As you say it is not a common design feature to have a detachable cable with a wireless headphone. So there is no standard. What I find completely bewildering is the lack of a standard for "balanced" headphone connectors ... 4 pin XLR, dual 3 pin XLR, TRRS 3.5, dual TRS 3.5, dual TRS 6.35, pentacon. Now there is a cause worthy getting worked up about ... And I would if I cared even the slightest bit about the fad that is "balanced" headphone drive.

you forgot 2.5mm TRRS and nowadays also 4.4mm TRRS in your list

@Cassady - AKG do allow you to use a 2.5mm jackpin to 3,5mm jackpin to interface wired with their wireless headphones - so you can use any standard wire that you can get from anywhere as long as it has a 2.5mm jack on one side to a 3.5mm jack on the other

Think this might be a silly question – but anyone know the reason for this/is this a "common" design-feature?

My Sennheiser wireless earphones have an option to plug in a cable to the device as if the earphones are 'wired'.

The cable that comes with the earphones, on the end where it plugs in to the one cup, is one where you are required to insert until it 'clicks', and then one must also twist it, to lock it into place. So it's device-specific/proprietary, and one cannot presumably use a 'standard' audio cable.
If you don't click and twist, it doesn't work.
I presume the only reason they would design it like that, is to prevent it from being accidentally pulled out?
[Ok. That, or it's to force you to only buy a Sennheiser cable as a replacement?]

Regardless, given the real-world, I would see this as a design-flaw, not a feature...

Surely if, for whatever reason, a cat, other huuman, T-Rex, falling book, meteor, coffee mug, pot-plant, screaming fit of rage at being no-scoped etc., runs interference with the cable – rather than have it yank out at the earphone (with presumably relatively little, if any, damage), it's either going to have to be yanked from whatever it is plugged in to – or worse case – yank the earphones off your head?
Either scenario is not obviously not ideal.

Is this only Sennheiser that does this – or is it quite a common feature with cables connecting to earphones?
And if so – why?
My Sennies (HD 598 Cs) also has the twist-lock 2.5mm plug. I speak under correction but they'll work if they are plugged in all the way but not twist-locked (one of the known mods is to remove the locking mechanism so a normal 2.5mm plug can be used). If yours requires to be locked, there might be a micro switch that enables wired connection / disables the radio- it's the only real reason I can think of, apart from greed, and even then, there are other jack-sensing technologies that they can make use of.

There was at least one other manufacturer thst used a similar/same implementation as the HD 598 I have though the name escapes me.

I found something on the web today.... I present to you; The SchittScraper:

Sennie just doing Sennie things as Sennie does.

That said there is no scenario of a cable being pulled that works well. Even being wireless it wouldn't just seamlessly transition back to wireless playback. So locking mechanism or not the result would be pretty much the same except for maybe headphones falling on the floor.

Need HP recommendation. Around R8000-12000.
Was looking at Stax but got snapped up by EliteOP.

I think Rolin is selling his 800S with that beautiful custom balanced cable in the deal.

I am not so good with people's names sadly. I still refer to you as Ninja rather than Shayne in my head. ;)
I don't think I would mind an HD800s with it's sleek black looks, though would also want to see what is available out there.
Want to make a list of all the available HP right now and start binge watching reviews.

You already had the standard HD800 which would be my first recommendation. You can also consider Audeze LCD2 and Hifiman HE560 (or whatever the replacement is called), Beyerdynamic T1, Focal Elear and some of the ZMF's in that range. Thomas has some lovely Fostex headies if you want to go closed back.

Yeah. EliteOp snapped it up and is holding it hostage. JK. [emoji51]

There were three pairs that came into the market about a year ago. I have one, @EliteOp and @capetownwatches the other two. None of us are selling anytime soon. Stax is quite rare in these quarters an those that find them hold on for dear life (unless under temporary insanity like Thomas and Dhiveshan did).

So OneDayOnly actually had something good last week,
A pair of EPH-200 Yamaha for 799 (Cost about 4500 on amazon right now and can only get from Japan)

I got them today, and they are just fucking delightful :)

I had to order the original EPH-100 from Japan to Uk and from there to SA. And i love them to death and still use them every day. Was planning to do the same with EPH-200 until i saw them on onedayonly. Now these things are expensive and relatively hard to source so my first instinct was these are fakes, they cant be here in SA and this cheap. Naturally i ordered one and got mine today but i am in Namibia so a few more days for me to get my hands on them. I asked my brother to send me all sort of images and they look legit. But glad to see someone else sees the beauty in these. If you are an electro or synthwave guy then you simply cant go wrong with Yamaha EPH.

Just won a bid on eBay for my next audio experience!
Want to thank @Ac!DLeAk for sending me the link.
Was staring catatonically at the screen for 45 min waiting for the auction to end.
Can't wait for it to arrive.
