Welcome to the rabbit hole!

As for DAC/Amp, here's my take on DACs and I know many will disagree but this is w.r.t. having a budget as well. If your motherboard headphone jack doesn't exhibit any kind of noise/interference (like a hum, or a hiss, static, etc.) then you don't "need" an entry level DAC and you're better off getting a good/better headphone amp. On the other hand, if your motherboard DAC is noisy then you will of course benefit greatly from an external DAC. Of course at a later stage you can upgrade and get a nice external DAC that you like.

Agree with this 100%, Have the JDS Amp and Dac, the external JDS Dac wasnt as good as the ES9023P chip on the board.
Was having all kinds of issues where netflix, spotify etc where i couldnt see the external DAC using the their win 10 apps.
The amp on the other hand made a world of difference.

I don’t see the need for a separate dac/amp at this level. Just get a decent entry level AIO and you’re good to go. Bypasses all the above issues and kills two birds with one stone.

I contacted schenzen audio on eBay, they said the topping dx3 pro batches starting with 1902 are no more opamp exploding or whatever, and then sent a photo of one with the serial starting 1903 so I'm going to give that a try soon.

You win, bought the HD58X. I am sure I wont struggle to flog them if I decide to get something else.

Now to get a dac/amp, I guess now the real struggle starts.

Suppose anything that can power a 150ohm set, I know the u7 can, but thats max so if somewhere down the line you decide to get a hungrier set of cans you'll need to upgrade the sound card. As for the gsx, I'm not sure what sort of numbers it can push out.
A decent dac/amp combo will work just fine for you, a schiit fulla for example

The Sennie GSX supposedly maxes out at 150ohms although real life is supposedly a fair bit lower than that.

Whats the difference between the SHP9500's and the X2's?

My fok, congrats mate! Had one on Drop and cancelled last minute...
Thanks man - Why did you cancel?

Bought this initially to be a balanced DAC for a STAX energiser in the future but then the THX 789 got dropped so I actually don't know which direction I'm heading anymore...

From what I've read, the SU8 and 789 will get along just fine and will bring you many hours of audio bliss. I'm still waiting for my DX7S, I don't expect it to be too different from the SU8. But the long wait for the 789 is gonna be real - happy I'm not alone. Please let me know when yours ships. But for now, I'm pretty keen on your thoughts of the SU8 once you've given her some loving.

Yeah the wait is not fun. Will let you know when mine ships.

Will play with the SU-8 during the week with all the filters and colours but just plugged in now, installed the drivers and played a random song. The difference is instantaneous. Insanely quiet DAC - microscopic details, even on the 58x. I suspect my current headphones won't do this unit justice.

Too many Audio stuffs🙈 -> an Atom on the way and later the 789... "Im not sick, I'm not sick, I'm not sick..."😵
Your audio kit section in your sig will almost go into a new line.... :D

I think you're the sickest of us all :p
I must agree... This flu got Elite HARD, I thought Ninja was having it rough...

I can happily say that I am somewhat cured for the time being. So busy with work, I hardly get time to read up on audio goodies.

MY Tin T2 Pro's are getting a proper workout though. Been using them all day and evening the past 2 weeks, on the iPhone through the dongle nogals.

Must say, not too bad a setup.

I know this isn't -really- headphones related but, Loot is running a special on the Sound BlasterX AE-5.

I have it and honestly for the price it's going at currently, it's a steal.

Nice dude! For the first time in ages I feel content. DX7S and 789 inbound. Q5 and P20 doing a superb job in the meanwhile. 650 and 800S work really well together. Only thing I’m missing is some planar goodness, but wifey is basically walking round with a baseball bat after I ordered the DX7S and 789 a few days apart. So planar will have to wait a bit.

Just arrived :)

I bought stock that he brought in, think it was the last unit (if bodorbuy could be believed). I paid R3799 including delivery to the office. I have no idea what the actual shipping would cost, but I used $160 for the headphones, + $30 shipping, add 10% duties and 15% VAT at $15, I felt happy with the price I paid and the fact that I basically got it the next business day.

On a side note, I was introduced to Scott via Carbonite, would it be frowned upon to give feedback on his shipping thread, even though it was bought via bid or buy?

Congrats! No harm leaving feedback there. Scott is well respected.

If you take soundstage out of the equation - What would tip me to look into the HD800s over the DT1990 pro?

OK, this might sound extremely silly, but it really did'nt bother me. Call it blissful ignorance if you will. I have been using an old Ipod shuffle for the odd tune, in my vehicles, this is far from ideal and pressing next to get to a lekker tune is getting somewhat irritating . . .

One of the vehicles only has an aux in, the other has aux in,usb and an old ipod connector. Can you please recommend a decent user friendly DAP. No idea what they cost, any direction would be appreciated. The last few years I've only bought tunes on Itunes, would I be able to load them on the DAP?

Maybe a V20? That would be the most hassle free.
