HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

Don't worry Panda, my interest here is minimal ... my last gaming experience was Outrun and Lemmings. Did not use headphones for then ...cant even remember if it had sound. That and watching Game of Thrones on DT990's is the limit of my gaming / headphone experience. But if anyone needs help done the audiophile rabbit hole I will gladly help ... it is a very rewarding hobby.

I think this thread has evolved quite a bit beyond the "for gaming" aspects of headphones.

I dont know if people are still looking at this thread but anyway, here's my 2c.

I have used a lot of gaming headsets in the past, all brands, stereo, true 7.1 and the virtual 7.1 ect. My brother always used audiphile headphones so I decided to try it out. I was on a budget so I got my self the DT990 pros (250ohm) with a Fiio Q1 dac and standard desktop mic.

My first impression was that I have never felt any other headphones/headsets as comfoprtable as this and that gaming headsets are a massive waste of money, especially when you consider the price I've paid.

My brother currently has the AKG 712 pro with ao2 dac stack. We both agreed that the Beyer's sound signature is more fun and versatile, but the AKG's has a very noticeable better soundstage. It was rather hard to pick the one or the other but we think you might need both since they do things differently. The DT990's is rather good for gaming due to the lows and highs being more emphasized. Also works great with Dolby atmos for headphone.

Everytime I see people on FB asking about headsets for gaming and having good budgets, then reading the comments...It's rahter sad that RGB trumps godo quality sound.

Welcome my man

Did you commando your 598? Guess the driver is about 1cm close to your ear then? How was comfort? Probably amazing since your face was numb... :p

It definitely works. I can guarantee that. After a while your ears get burned in and get used to the new sound of the headphones....

Oh wait... did you mean do the headphones burn in?

:)

My ears got burnt in... Had a pinch in my left ear the whole day yesterday... stayed away from the headies for the day yesterday... and NO, I dont listen to loud music ever... Not my style.... :p

like i never use to like jamiroquai, with my AKG 240 his music sounds so much more better, why is that, wonder if its a placebo, wonder how it is going to sound tomorrow on the dt990. think i need to get a new dac and amp next, any recommendations?

@alanlesley to clarify, although I was making a joke above, I don't actually have any thoughts on burn in, some swear by it, some say it is a placebo, others say the in-factory burn-in is more than enough and yet I've even heard others say that it exactly is your ears becoming accustomed to the new headphones (but that doesn't explain why some swear by pink noise burn in, but I've seen some manufacturers recommend burn in naturally rather than forcing it with pink noise overnight or whatever).

So I also own a pair of Sony wh-1000xm2 for my commute to work. Going to try gaming on these this weekend. Should be interesting...

No need. Just wear them and enjoy. If burn in is required, it will happen as you listen. Just use them, chances are you won't notice any sound difference with the so called 'burn in'... What you will get is much more comfortable pads as they run in.
