HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

So old faithful came out today, because the ladies at the office never stopped yapping. I forgot how much I enjoy this set, listened to The Wall over and over

The definition of style cans... Damn those are sexy headphones.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on the HD600s. If for nothing else, just to own a piece of history...

Also... Amazon UK actually catapults the stock over to Ireland (true story....) so no import duty!

I'll check the prices again, but last time I checked it was cheaper with the special on Amazon.

That being said, I am going to Frankfurt in June so might wait for that instead and see what toys are at Sennheisers shop

Would be great experience to buy it there after the tour. Jaust saying

A buddy came round yesterday and we got talking about headphones and kit. We took a look at my A50's at some point. I had to make sure I was seeing right - only gadget I've owned that has a layer of dust on it. Totally forgot about them  will have to scrub em down and wrap em nice and warm. To think they were once jamming centre forward in my premier league...

I know someone selling 2 Audio GD R2R-11's. A 2018 model for R5500 and a 2019 for R6500 - thank me later :p
In SA I'm guessing? Im back for a week in March. Might actually put my 598s up for sale then.

anybody here used a ifi iDSD Micro Black Label .... i'm looking at getting one because i want some transportability

also what headphones you headphone CUD guys reckon will match with one of those?

not for gaming though - just for all round music but i am a soundstage junkie - so i suppose requirements should be similar ..... I cannot afford HD800s though and budget for headphones maybe up to around R7k or thereabouts

Just got home from a drink session with work colleagues.

Removed the pads from my HD598s (don't ask me why I thought that be a good idea) Initial thoughts... They sound a lot brighter than before.

Will update once I have sobered up...

What you've done is to accentuate the effect of worn pads. For starters there is no seal, hence the driver is now in free space with zero acoustic suspension. Open backed without pads Vs open back is an extreme version of open backed Vs closed back. Secondly the actual "acoustic space" is much smaller so there is not enough space for those long-wavelength lows to develop. Therefore you will experience diminished bass response and dynamic impact. Hope you enjoyed the 🍺 🍺 🍺 more than your acoustics experiment.

Did you commando your 598? Guess the driver is about 1cm close to your ear then? How was comfort? Probably amazing since your face was numb... :p

@Ninja_Theory , now we can't talk nonsense anymore... We have a boffin among us here now.

If they sound bright when drunk... imagine how they'll sound when you sober!
P.S. It is the HD59x 's you're meant to remove the pad on (or rather the inner foam, but whateva). :p
edit... yes, HD58x thanks @PandaAttack1 for the correction.

*HD58X
I prefer the sound with the pads still in place.

Don't worry Panda, my interest here is minimal ... my last gaming experience was Outrun and Lemmings. Did not use headphones for then ...cant even remember if it had sound. That and watching Game of Thrones on DT990's is the limit of my gaming / headphone experience. But if anyone needs help done the audiophile rabbit hole I will gladly help ... it is a very rewarding hobby.
