HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

😂 😂 😂

Mine have a chip here and a crack there, nothing major unless I plan as using them as a bat or something similar xD

I'm enjoying the height of the pads, they create a small biome in the cup that I feel is missing in my 751's and becomes very much appreciate once you are aware of it. I'm still eagerly awaiting properly sinking some music and good game audio through these.

Have you found anywhere to get replacement pads?

I know wootware sells/sold replacement pads for the Game Zero/301 etc. so you can maybe check if they can source.
You are looking for HZP 26 Sennheiser if you want ear pad replacements.

Only local link I could find that isn't some import shop trying to ask 1k plus for some ear pads:

There doesn't seem to be a direct headband replacement, found a thread where sennheiser support apparently told a guy to buy a hd600 headband pad which didn't work. Pity we don't have shops where you can go properly look at all these products.

Thank you Sabie, that's great, these pads aren't worn down or anything, it's more just the headband becoming loose. Regardless I think I will still purchase a pair and find a manner to stick the headband back down securely so you can't decide to remove it xD

Liewe Goerge!!!...just thought I'd give Tidal 1 month free trial a go... I'm confused and in love at the same time:ROFLMAO:

Tidal took the cataracts of my ears and the whole world sounds better through their Hifi & MQA tier package

On the other hand Spotify has features which I love and grown used to... I can't keep both but Tidal definitely strongest contender to get my money....

$20 per month for the HiFi option is a bit steep  How does Deezer compare @ R90 pm?

Will signup with Deezer in a bit and try to decide between the 3.

Actually forgot about Deezer... thanks for the heads-up(y)

I've been using my newly boughy Game Ones since lockdown, and I never want to go back to closed back. Been eyeing me some 58xs, wondering if it's worth it...

But back at work today, with a server cabinet in the room... On goes the closed back.

At home? Never again closed. Added bonus, I can hear what's going on in my house. Wife appreciates that I am more responsive too.

Enjoy your G1s, I know I am!!
Just wish they were easier to get a hold of

I also just signed up to Deezer for the HiFi 3 month trial, will give feedback.

Can you only see this after signing up?
Can't remember tbh LOL!

I prefer Tidal. Deezer is fine. I sub to both but hardly use Deezer. My use case is based on Roon. I use Roon as my audio software, primarily because of its excellent Tidal integration and added functionality and metadata. Also Tidal has an AppleTV app, Deezer doesn't. So for me, Deezer doesn't tick all the boxes. But.. if budget was a constraint then I think Deezer makes more sense, even if it's not as pretty as Tidal.

Edit: If I remember correctly, you can also upload your own music to Deezer, and then access it over the cloud if needed. I used that feature a few years ago and it worked really well. Not sure of it's still part of their subscription offering.

We get quite the deal then compared to other countries, I guess it's to actually be competitive in our market.
Yeah. Deezer will well prices in SA. Unlike Tidal, they have territory pricing as their global strategy, which is pretty nice.

Have tidal and spotify
I love tidal for the videos and the MQA and HIFI quality.
Spotify absolutly rocks for its AI , whatever automajic does its recommendations is epic. Also it has more apps and device support.
(Garmin device / better android auto app, easier to find music I like).

Would rate spotify as essential and Tidal as cream.

Exactly this!

Just got Tidal as well - trying it out now.

Can't really see a use case for home use at the moment if you have a FLAC library and using ASIO/WASAPI

UPDATE: Just a a few minutes in and its pretty apparent that the TIDAL apps messes with source. Sounds worse than FLAC in foobar. Suggest using something else like Roon to stream Tidal

Tidal also has region pricing. Im paying R119.99 a month for the Hi-Fi sub which is way less than the $19.99 price tag.

Tidal sounds amazing thru Roon. The Tidal integration coupled with Roon audio engine is simply superb.

Thought I better drop a heads up in my favourite thread before I make sale threads for these items. I picked up an Audio GD R-28 this weekend, and I'm about to pick up a beautiful mystery headphone. So I'm selling some stuff I don't need anymore - I'll make sale threads sometime this week:
  1. THX789 - Sadly there is a queue but as they say, it ain't over till the fat lady sings. I think I read some negative feedback about the 789 on this thread a while back, but chose not to respond - this has been my daily driver for months. It is nothing short of superb if you enjoy a clean transparent sound sig. As with most things in this game, pairing is everything. I have used it extensively with a HD650, 800S and Fostex Purple Heart.
  2. Loxjie P20 - Cheapest balanced hybrid tube amp worth buying this side of Pluto (or possibly the Milky Way)
  3. AR.M2 DAP - This DAP is an absolute masterpiece, I just don't have a need for a DAP right now. The sound signature on this thing is simply out of this world. Warm, lush, detailed. Incredible. I doubt it can be matched at even double the price. A true unicorn.
  4. FiiO Q5 with AM5 amp upgrade & cover (extras) - @PandaAttack1 has first dibs on this, I'll make a sales thread sometime this week (AM5 link is correct, the AM5 amp fits the Q5 and X7)

I think that's everything audio that I wanna sell for now. If I remember anything else, I'll add it here before I make the sales threads.

Congrats on the Auteur, was seriously thinking about it but money.
If you ever decide to let go the HD800s because of it, let me have first dibs. 😁

Thanks. It is simply the most well rounded and balanced headphone I have ever heard. It just doesn't put a foot wrong, it's really something special. Very difficult to explain - I have never heard anything like it. I'm not sure I will ever be able to part with the 800S  Edit: Just saw the dibs now. Sure will chat offline - but there is a queue.. however, it is unlikely I will sell them anytime in the foreseeable future.

Wasn't saying the 789 is a bad amp - just that I wouldn't own one and pointed out that its not 100% transparent. It does colour the treble, which isn't a bad thing necessarily. People (lots of them based on history of the AMP) prefer that from what they have been used to. GLWS (ales)

It's a superb amp. I spent dozens, if not hundreds of hours on it. Really impressive when paired well. I paired it with the 650, 800S, Purple Heart and Auteur. With each of these it was stellar. Clean, tight bass with quite remarkable texture, and pretty incredible detail on treble. Knowing what I know now, if I had to go back, you would have to do quite a job on me to look at anything else. I'm selling because the R28 has a little more weight, air and stage. I did not plan to sell it at all, even after I bought the R28.

because the R28 has a little more weight, air and stage. I did not plan to sell it at all, even after I bought the R28.

Ergo, more transparency and natural sound. People seem to mistake transparency for clinical, which is what THX tech in general (not just the 789) does. It was designed for two things. 1) To measure "clean" in terms of numbers, and 2) To produce a lot of power which they achieved, but at the expense of the overall sound signature.

When the 789 first came out, it was great for the market as it showed what can be done on a budget. Monoprice and SMSL then soon joined the party. Fast forward and we are now in position where even Schiit is able to produce the level of cleanliness in their entry level stack.

All I am saying really is two things:
1) THX tech is not the end all and be all of amps
2) THX tech is not natural nor transparent. It is clinical and does colour the sound (most evidently through treble) so just know that when you do purchase these types of amps (Again, might be a great pairing with a warm tilted DAC or headphone)
