Hi guys,
I'm having a bit of an issue that I can't wrap my head around. Can anyone help?

So I bought a Samsung Note10+ on Carbonite - it's second hand. I was told its Cell C stock.

I used it happily for a year with no hassles, until I decided to port to Vodacom and I popped a Vodacom sim into my phone.
I realised that my phone is not detecting the Vodacom network - I am still able to use it by roaming on Telkom (I'm not sure exactly how that's working) but it's like Vodacom doesn't exist to my phone.
At first, I thought that the port wasn't completed properly, but I tested the sim in my wife's phone and it immediately connects to Vodacom.
If I try to scan for networks, it'll find all the networks except Vodacom.

Is the issue with my phone? And what is the issue?
I've tried everything short of a factory reset - I'd like to avoid that if possible

Please help

Perhaps Vodacom blacklisted the IMEI. Blacklisted from their network...

Yup, just like when you see the Gumtree ads where someone states Cell C only.
Its likely a listing of some sort, there are reasons it could happen i.e account not paid up or in some rare instances when a phone is stolen with a similar IMEI and accidentally listed.
Vodacom should be able to check it up on their end

According to Vodacom's FAQ:

You will know when your cellphone is blacklisted and can be identified when the following happens:

  • You will hear a three-tone beep when attempting to make a call.
  • When receiving a call, the phone will ring once and then display a missed call message on the screen.
A blacklisted phone can only make calls to the 112 emergency services

Yeah porbably blacklist, happen my wife iphone 8. Only worked on cellc, worked fine for first year on any network

So like are you having those symptoms? Lol
Nopes
I have a Vodacom sim in my phone
It's showing that I'm connected to Telkom-R (I really don't understand that part) and my calls are working perfectly fine.

Over the past year, I've used Telkom, MTN and FNB sim cards with no issue.
It still works on all those networks
Just won't connect to Vodacom

its blacklisted on VDC network bud.
Had the same issue with my Mate 20 Pro, all networks was working except for VDC sim.

If its a Cell C contract phone and not pre paid i would suggest the original owner needs to go to Cell C with affidavid and the invoice and request them to unblacklist the phone.
The blacklisting might still be going through hence the VDC only network block.

Trust me it will not work if you go yourself to VDC they will say you need to go where you bought the Phone and when you get there, the owner is the only one with power on the account.

I guess I will have to contact the original owner

Update on the situation:

I popped into Vodacom today. They did all their tests and then gave me the useless answer that everything was fine on their end - the phone is not blacklisted or blocked on their network.

So then I went to Cell C since its on contract with them. They proved to be more useless by saying that the problem is with Vodacom - but if I want, I can book it in to get checked out by a technician.

I decided that I will do the factory reset and if that doesn't work, I'll send it directly to Samsung for repairs.

Reflash the ROM with a firmware from sammobile.com (you will need to know your specific build number)

Maybe also ask @DROID

Unfortunately, flashing a stock ROM won't fix this issue. Message me privately if you'd like to chat further :)
