Hey guys.

I'm in a bit of a thing here. Just got a secondhand mobo, cpu and 8gig stick of ram, as well as a gtx950. Mobo, cpu and ram from one buyer, gpu from another. Was assured that it works.

So what's happening now? Power up, I get no display, fan spins for a few seconds then pc switches off, then switches back on and fan spins for a few mind and then switches off. And so on it goes.

What have I done thus far? Disconnect drives, front USB cables, audio cables, removed gpu, reset bios and still does the same thing.

I have noticed, that I don't have a 8 pin power connector on my psu, just the 4pin connector and the board has a 8 pin connector.

Can that be the possible issue?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ps, I don't have other hard

Hey bud. That's usually a faulty PSU , sometimes a M/B . Would look at your PSU first though.

PS: 4 pin into 8 is fine . Just make sure you plug into the correct side of the eight pin.

Give full mobo details and cpu.need to know if full 8pin is needed to power that mobo.

Petester, I'm thinking the exact same thing. Fook man, I used all my cash for this build, and never thought of getting a psu. Aaaaaah. I hope it's not the mobo, gosh man. I'm so fookin upset now, and my wife is not to happy with this crap. Getting the I told you so look

Make sure you have orientated the 4 pin correctly . Look at the shapes on the 4 pin . Usually it wont fit but in some cases it can go in either side of the eight pin

4pin only goes into one position. Removed fpu, reset bios and still the same thing

yeah most likely psu as Petester says.
But just out of curiosity was the cpu in the mobo when you got it?
Just check there is no bent pins on the mobo.

yep good idea and reseat everything again

Starting to think mobo, just tried my brother in laws 480w psu. Reset the bios and it does the same thing. Man! This guy is gonna think I bust this stuff.

Take all connectors out and plug in again , reseat ram , CPU , etc. Often it can be the obvious so I would start there.

I applied heatsink paste upon fitting again, not slot and not to little :)

what about the onboard graphics option with card out ?

Board and the bench, not gpu, using on board graphics and still the same thing. Muthafooker man

Cat afford another board now. Seller seeing my message but no reply. Can't expect to get blocked soon.

Gosh I meant to say mobo on the bench, with no gpu installed. Same thing

could be a bent pin.... I would remove the cpu to inspect... look at the socket from all angles, remember the pins on the motherboard are not all aligned in the same direction

If it switches of like that I am leaning towards a faulty board, or believe it or not, a faulty cpu

I would first try to boot the board with no RAM and see if the board stays on.
If the board stays on without doing its power cycle thing you can try a single ram stick in each slot of the board.

Don't stress about display try plugging in a keyboard (if the board stays on) to see if the numlock light becomes responsive.
if it is, then you have a boot atleast.

I am afraid I still think its a motherboard or CPU issue :(

Where did you get these parts from?
Do you know the sellers?
How sure are you it was working before you got it, besides them saying?

Summary of above seems like one of the below:

1st would be psu
2nd motherboard faulty
3rd bent mobo pins overtightened cpu cooler - this has happned to me and wouldnt boot ( resulting in a bent pin which i fixed and worked )
4th something not plugged in
5th something shorting

Was a Gumtree seller. Contacted seller and we ran through some checks. all the possible causes mentioned here, without any luck. He is willing to give a refund, thank God. Thanks to everyone that replied, its so appreciated. Wish bmwfanatics was so responsive when i had issues with her lol.

so if anybody has a 4th gen combo for 2k in CT, then pls let me know. can collect tomorrow. Really desperado for it.

Thought I would give you guys an update. It was the mobo that was an issue. Thanx guys for the speedy replies and assistance. Its much appreciated.
