I want to buy a sound card and headset. Currently using a MSI DS502 gaming headset, My motherboard is Asus TUF B360M-PLUS GAMING. I have several questions
  1. The headset has a USB connector so am I right in assuming it doesnt use the onboard sound card ? So if I buy a new sound card I wont be able to use this headset with that new card ?
  2. My board has 2 PCI ports one has a internal LAN card in it, second one is empty but my graphics is too close to it so I was thinking of going for an external sound card. Am I right ? or the internal ones are better and I should get a PCI riser kit or remove the wifi card and use a LAN cable instead ?
  3. I have a creative 2.1 channel speakers which connects with a 3.5mm jack. Once I get a sound card do I have to plug it in the headphone port of the sound card ?

I have this sound card in mind ATM Asus Xonar U7 MKII 7.1 USB Sound Card & Headphone Amplifier - Wootware.
Please help.

Yes to questions 1 and 3. Not so sure about question 2 though I do wonder why if a cabled connection was an option why you opted for the wireless add-in card?

Well actually 3 is bit more complicated. If you want the U7 to supply the speakers with sound yes. But you could also get a headphone to connect to the U7 and have the speakers in the motherboard same as always. And then just switch default sound sources in Windows depending on if you want speakers or the headset (or vice versa)

motherboard dint have wireless so added the card in, was following the principle of better have when not need it then need it and not have it.

Eventually I am going to buy a different set of speakers to run on the computer. So keeping the speaker connected to the onboard audio might just work in the meantime.
But If i do want to connect the speaker to sound card for better sound quality with my current speaker should I get a 3.5mm jack to female like this one

Cabled is always better with lower latency.
So it sounds like removing the wireless card and getting a Xonar DG or the like (there aren't many PCI sound cards left, unless you actually meant PCI-e) is absolutely an option.

So now you've got two very viable options.

Oh yes its a PCIe slot. are the internal ones better than the external ones ?

In my opinion yes....but opinions are divided.

At least whilst you are still dealing with gamer gear. Once you start on things further up the food chain USB is fine.

It really depends on major factors such as the what went into the product.

I have a USB DAC and love it. I don’t like having to reach behind a computer to plug my headphones in all the time as I travel with them often.
