Good evening gents,

I've completely rebuilt my PC over the last 2 weeks but still require a new monitor as I'm still running on an old 23" Samsung monitor (1ms response time is about as fancy as it gets ). I'm looking for a decent upgrade and through all my research it looks like a 27" 1440p monitor would be the best considering my budget of R8 - R10k.

Current specs:
Case:
Phanteks Eclipse P400S Silent-Edition
MB: Gigabyte B450 AORUS ELITE
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X
GPU: ASUS Dual GTX 1070 8GB
RAM: G.Skill Trident Z 16GB DDR4 3600MHz
OS SSD: 120GB Western Digital
SSD 2: TeamGroup 512GB
HDD: Western Digital Blue 7200 1TB
Cooling: AMD Wraith Prizm (for now)
Screen: Samsung SyncMaster BX2231
Keyboard: SteelSeries Apex 150
Headset: Hyper X Cloud
Mouse: Some shitty mouse at the moment.

Use cases:
  • I'm a website designer & digital marketer so the majority of my time is spent in front of my screens.
  • Gaming - mainly FPS games (COD:MW, Escape from Tarkov) with some other genres every now and again (RDR2, Rust etc)

Some options I've been looking at:
I've searched through older threads but most of the time the recommended screens are not currently in stock with Evetech, Rebeltech, Wootware, etc. I'm looking for something I can purchase and get delivered within the next week.

Thank you in advance for any tips or recommendations! 🙏

Which games do you play, as you are going to be barely getting above 60fps (if that much) with a 1070 on 1440p? I meant other than the ones listed, as for example RDR is going to be a real struggle on 1440p with a 1070.

I'm considering upgrading to a 2070 Super so not too worried about the FPS restrictions with my 1070. :)

Don't meant to derail from your choices, but get an ultrawide 3440 x 1440, 100 - 144hz.
Will be best decision of your life.

You are more than welcome to recommend something else, the examples I listed are purely there for examples. I'm open to suggestions of other monitors within budget that are in stock with SA retailers.

@Mole_ZA I have one of those, just the g-sync version. I love this screen.

Colour wise, how good is this screen? I've done quite a bit of research on this specific screen and it sounds amazing.

EDIT: As far as I can tell, the Freesync version works with Nvidia GPU's?

@Quentin360 SA I can't comment on the freesync, I don't know. The g-sync works beautifully though bit is more expensive: DELL S2417DG 24" QHD 165Hz Gaming Monitor

Secondly, the colour settings out of the box is not the greatest, it does require quite a bit of googling and tinkering, but once I got it to where I wanted it I was more than happy.

The good news, tons of guides with different proposals out there to fix it, but give this article a read: Dell S2417DG 24-inch 165Hz G-Sync Gaming Monitor Review

Hey dude,

Thank you for the info, I really appreciate it. 🙏

The G-sync version must be quite a bit more expensive as the 24" you linked was already more expensive than the 27" Freesync version. I'll probably be pulling the trigger on the 27" at Evetech on Monday. Thanks again for the info and advice.

Use an ICC profile from the net once you get the monitor. Not as good as calibrating yourself, but it still improves things massively.

Sorry for the slight derail.

I'm running basically the same rig as you and just ordered the P400A Digital.

Please can you give me your CPU and GPU temps when gaming or benchmarking?

If craptech still has the LG32GK650F for 6500 you’ll be hard pressed to do better than that.

I have sold this model to @superrob sometime ago decent brand , edit never check the post like to see the 1 you bought congrats :)

These are fantastic models.

I am somewhat of a monitor whore, and been through many many monitors.

21:9 is awesome and immersive, but they come with the curve and they're not competitive enough for my liking. I prefer a flat, 16:9 monitor when playing the majority of my FPS. Some people absolutely love their 21:9 monitors, it didn't work for me.

27" is still the sweet spot imo. I currently own a LG 32GK650F 32", which is a direct competitor to the AOC that STILTECH listed here.

It's fantastic. It's huge and immersive. But, I think my next monitor will be a 27" again.

Only down side really was it's stand not been fully adjustable, so I purchased a really nice fully adjustable mount for it instead of the stock stand.

With the 1070 the temps were fine, gaming sessions reached 70 - 78 degrees. (The top sound dampening panels needed to be removed though)

The 1080 Ti is a different story though... CPU temps spiked to 95 degrees for brief moments. I'll definitely need to order some extra fans to increase the airflow.

I'm considering upgrading to THIS case for the RGB goodness and increased airflow.
