Hey guys,

Attempting a new build here - I'm getting an i7 9700k and a RTX 2080ti.

My only concern is my MOBO - currently its a MSI Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON. Mobo is slightly dated, will it be able to handle the new CPU and GPU? Should I be concerned about anything? Or am I forced to upgrade that as well?

EDIT: Also want to get a an NVME drive as well..

Again .... @AceSwiftShooter is right ..... overpriced ... they are good cards - just not for the price they want.

Already been burned :(

Need to get a new mobo regardless because im going from an i5 7th gen to the i7 9th gen....

Sounds like the CUD hit you hard

Yes, but right in the balls. Fuck that’s an expensive bill to swallow.

I’d get the Gigabyte Aourus Pro Z390 if I was in that situation.

12+1 phase so it’ll overclock for daaaayz.

agreed with @JollyJamma - Gigabyte (despite me not really liking them) have one of the best Z390 boards.

a 7th gen i5 would have still kept you going for a long time to come - so yeah definite CUD right there.

CPU was actually bottle-necking me in a few games.

And yes, I was peer pressured into this stupid decision fml.

For reasons I need to get a board from evetech's list of stock just to add to the list of requirements...

Intel Motherboards on Sale + Free Shipping - Evetech South Africa

Edit: I'm in a point in my life where I can finally afford the latest and greatest - not the most responsible decision I've ever made but atleast I'll be able to player cyberpunk and anthem when they release at 9000 fps

According to Gamers Nexus, Gigabyte are out to have the best VRM setup of all the boards out there. It's a pity that their BIOS is so badly laid out but hey.
MSI would be my second choice.

Uh, OK. That sucks. Get an Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero. The Asus rep in on here so they can help you out directly if you need anything and it's a great board.

Buildzoid rates the Gigabyte boards really highly though so if you can purchase from say wootware, rather get the Aorus Pro.

Edit: I know I've been misspelling Aorus incorrectly the entire time. I was too lazy/busy to google the name until now.

Watch this video. The bare minimum board is the Z390 UD.

Doubt it was the CPU. What GPU & RAM were you running?

Eish that peer pressure is expensive... Look here, a 2600k @ 4.4Ghz + fast DDR3 + 1080Ti is on average 8-12% below the average frames per second of a 8700k @ 4.4Ghz + DDR4 + 1080Ti...

@CarNage take the RTX 2080 Ti naysayers with a pinch of salt. It’s a personal decision. I am so happy with my 2080 Ti. It has easily met and in some cases exceeded my expectations. I paid R18k and consider it one of my best cud purchases this year.

@souljazk
I think you missed the point where he/she/they has already purchased the CPU and GPU and just needs a motherboard. Hence the thread title and my suggestions.
No idea why Evetech is the only place he/she/they can buy the motherboard from but hey, not my situation, just my recommendation.

I also agree with Madala_ZA. Even if the product is expensive, if you're happy with the performance and can afford it, then ignore people who tell you that you are wrong. It's your money. You get to spend it on whatever the fuck you want to spend your money on.
