Hi all

So after a +- 10 year break, a luck bargain that i stumbled across on Carb seems to have sucked me back in. So after only being on Carb again for about a week i a finalizing or at least trying to finalize my build...

abit of history i previously used to build and mod pcs but life happened and time disappeared so gave up on it...the one pc that i have always wanted to build but never got the chance to is an all white with ice blue build...now clearly after browsing the forums i see that some things have changed eg ARGB with customisable effects and also watercooling and in particular custom loops have become much more affordable these days.

This is where i am at at the moment:

CPURyzen 5 3600x
MOBOMSI B450 Carbon Pro AC
CHASSISNZXT H700i
COOLINGNZXT Aer RGB Fans4x120mm
Kraken X72stock fans
HDDHKVision E2000 NVME 512GB
WD Blue 2tb and Adata 240gig SSD
PSUCorsair RM1000x
RAMCrucial Ballistix RGB 16 gig (3200mhz)
GPUTBC (Awaiting delivery)
Monitor

Of the above list, the cooling CPU, Mobo, Cooling components and M2 SSD are on hand already (and i swear they are making my hands itch) The chasis is en route and should arrive here tomorro. i am stuck with regards to the GPU and PSU.

I am also 2 minded regarding the mobo...the ITX form factor is very limiting. i am considering going for the MSI B450 Pro Carbon as an alternative but again...not 100% certain. i am also playing around with getting the antec prizm kit for the additional fans and controller but this is not cast in stone...

I weill also be making a few changes based on the blue and white aesthetic i am going for so the chassis is firstly going to be powdercoated white bothinside and out with the inside getting a super high gloss finish witha possibility of adding in a glitter effect to offset the light from the ARGBs ( the custom loop will come in a bit later when lockdown makes it easier to get stuff)...so yeah this is where i am at and the bug has bitten me haaaaaard....any guidance would be appreciated from the veterans here on carb especially regarding the mobo...

is that the MSI B450i Pro Carbon WIFI?

What resolution do you play at? AMD 5700 or RTX 2060 sound good?

Do you have to have RGB enabled DIMMS?

I’m pretty sure that that motherboard is a turd but I could be wrong.

I’d you don’t mind not having RGB RAM, I’d rather get the Crucial Ballistix E-die kit.

It can do 4000mhz and Isn’t expensive.

Are you speaking about the ballistix sport????

you making me second guess the mobo lol...everything i have seen rates that board very highly...its a beefed up tomahawk basically with add ons...as i mentioned in my initial post have the aorus pro wifi...but its gonna look tiny in the chassis

i know you do..but if i am gonna spend that amount i would want at least a later chipset...
You also get a B450M Mortar Titanium. Just linked the first one I saw. But stock is an issue right now.

Stock is the issue everywhere sigh...and ii dont think they are going to be replenished soon...

I wasn't recommending the board, i was bringing his attention to it as he's been out of the game for 10 years :ROFLMAO:

Basically he left the game when Bruno Mars was catching Grenades and BOB was pretending airplanes were shooting stars.

ex
Would avoid this board, bit of a turd at launch and now with X370 support dwindling its not the best idea to pick one up, especially at nearly 5K.
exactly...i have been doing some research and basically the b450 is the best of both worlds at the moment especially with how stupid high the 570 boards are...and it looks like the 550 boards are going to go the same way when they eventually get here

I am probably thinking of the X570 Version of that Board then - if reviews say it’s the tits, then cool.

The ram isn’t the sport, it’s the BL2K8G32C16U4B

Okay so a lol bit of research shows that pretty much all the ballistix ram including the sport make use of e die...so I can definitely look at tht

I'd take 4000mhz RAM over RGB RAM.

Rather get a nice LL120 fan and use that for your RGB fix.

The OCD is heavy with me lol...I am probably gonna go with the ballistix...see they have it in Matt white so yeah....for the RGB....case has strips and already have the antec prizm so I can drop the RGB ram....now if only I can find someone that has that mobo....sigh

@JollyJamma On what basis (what must the motherboard be able to do/not do; performance; overclock etc) do you call a motherboard a turd? I have seen you call a few motherboards turds on this forum that I have either owned or have considered pretty decent motherboards.

Bad VRMs (low capacity)
Bad VRM layout
Poor heat sinks
Poor memory controller
Poor memory layout
Not enough features

Blah blah

MSI B450 boards tend to be very good, especially the Tomahawk.

So I have managed to get my hands in the pro carbon mobo and should be getting it by Wednesday...damn u public holiday:mad::mad::mad::mad:...hence the update to my initial post....still on the hunt for a decent psu that's not overkill and the GPU is still up for debate...not to mention peripherals...sigh...it's a deep deep deep rabbit hole 😅😅😅

Any superflower of 550 or more watts will suffice

The AMD 5700 is now being phased out of production so you may want to hold off a little, unless the 5500XT or 5700 XT floats your boat.

Ahhh I know the superflowers are good but stock is only expected in July....there is a snowballs chance in hell of me waiting till then to build this thing

I have a nearly ready to go rig that only needs a GPU and chassis to be up and running and you don’t see me pulling the trigger on the final parts.

July is near. Don’t remind me, it’s my birthday on the 3rd.

Mind sharing what ur build is....I might do that for ram....those trident Neos look oh so shmexy

Avoid the Neos.

Go look at my tread about the X570 Tomahawk, it has a full list of videos with good advice in them.

I’ve got an:
X570 Tomahawk
3300X
16 gigs Crucial Ballistix 3200CL14 (the same one I suggested)
Corsair TX650M
Crucial SSD (an old 250gig model)

To buy:
Phanteks P400A
GPU (undecided)
Screen

Just order the SuperFlowers from Wootware - they aren't badly priced and worldwide stock is low as is so you'd be foolish to settle on a worse model.

@Pindyman

So you finally got your H700i 😂👍😁

My setup, which I am holding onto, which I am not sure why I wanted to change, and after some advice etc, I saw the light.

That being said, you know I wanted the H700i as well, but will likely settle for the Phanteks Evolv X now.

My build:
AMD 3600 - Seems to be really the sweet spot, price/performance wise currently.
MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon Ac - so glad to be back at MSI and getting rid of Asus. Good to have something work with no issues.
Patriot Viper Steel 3,733 MHz 2x 8gb - XMP enabled, runs butterly smooth.
MSI rx 5700xt Mech OC - no complains, cost less than a second hand warrantyless 1080ti, and mine uses about the same amount of power as a 1060.
Nzxt x62
Nzxt h510 - horrible thermal performance, hence need to get rid of this.
Superflower 650 gold 80+ full Modular psu
2x nvme m.2 drives

The above has probably given me th emost smooth computer experience in years, no hassles, just switch on and do my thing, it just works.

So looking at your build, I think you are heading in the right direction. However I would ignore the 3600x and rather go 3600, 3300x or if you want more performance 3700x.

Ram, very important, I would go with g skill trident 3600mhz, if I had to buy new now.

Gou - depending on budget, but if you going 1080p, 2060 super or 5700 and if 1440p, then 2070 super or 5700xt.

I already ordered the superflower and the trident z (non neo) the ETA is around about the same time Soooo I guess I need to be patient...

Hey buddy....

Hey hey hey...when the h700 came up I let u know straight away....then checked some reviews then added my dibs🤣🤣🤣....thought u were there before me and figured it was a long shot when the seller let me know there were other people in line...all o van say though is that this is one big boy and damn it is sexy lol....making me reconsider going all white after seeing the chassis up close.

As for the CPU..already got the 3600x for a bargain as part of a combo for mobo nvme and CPU so I'm not gonna complain there....I have however sold the original mobo and got me a brand spanking new carbon pro👍👍.

Since it looks like I am gonna be waiting for the psu and ram of choice to arrive I can be patient on the GPU front and see if something good turns up here...also give me time to see if I can get some AER fans instead of the antec's ocurrently have

White is making a comeback these days, you need to post pics once you are done.

And good luck in finding those aer fans, vary scarce now.

Saw that xfx card coming in now. Check some reviews to ensure the thermals sorted now. But with those cards, undervolt is required. Amd was waaaaay to aggressive for my liking on the voltages on those cards.

What else do you still need, screen?
