So a close friend of mine, whose niece lives in Bloem, is having a problem with her (niece's) lappy.

It is a 5-6 years old HP (not sure of the model as yet but will find out) that is showing the following:

Boot Device Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk
Hard Disk (3FO)
F2 System Diagnostics

I suspect it is either the drive cable/connection, or the drive itself (not sure if it's a HDD or an SSD - assuming it's a SATA device and not an M.2 or similar). If I was close by, I would take a look and figure out what is wrong. However, I'm not going there any time soon.

The machine apparently contains some uni work that she needs recovered fairly soon. She is mobile / able to deliver the machine to your location in Bloem if needed, and I need either the uni work recovered from the drive, and/or the machine repaired (check the cable/connection or replace the drive which she would buy a replacement of if needed).

Anyone able/willing to help? Happy to pay a nominal fee for your help if needed, or send a 6-pack your way. Let me know if anyone is up for it - thanks in advance,

Often these HPs if its one of the ranges I suspect have an issue with the drive vibrating loose
A small folded paper to act as a spring does the trick normally then. Still needs somebody to pop her open though :D

Had similar issues recently.

I think it just needs a new drive, get an SSD while you're at it.

Someone I know got scammed by a tech repair place where they installed a 256GB SSD for R2500!!

Look at cost price of an SSD equivalent of which is being installed and expect to pay around R300 more, don't pay higher than that.

+1, my work HP does the same. When you take it to IT they shake it like a cocktail and diagnose the problem on the spot
