Need For Speed: Heat Being Revealed Today

You can tell without an actual gameplay trailer? Hmmmm perhaps I need to consult with you before going on Tinder dates in future. You might save me from boredom :sneaky:
Man the last two games were horrifically boring, bleed away all my excitement for future arcade nfs games.

Wouldn't say they were entirely boring, but yes both had it's issues. The issues weren't related to boredom though but rather the poor choice of acting etc. for games on such a high budget.

So no microtransactions apparently. And gone with the speed card system. Good news.

The no micro-transactions things sounds good. The rest sounds like every attempt being made to salvage something people like as much as Most Wanted from Most Wanted (2012), Rivals and Payback/NFS (2015).......

Ughh...

When was it written that in order to have a campaign game must have a heavily voice-acted and cut-scened story? Just do it like Most Wanted and Underground 2, with the occasional once in a blue story moon cutscene. The rest of the time you're just doing races and suffering/enjoying free roam....
Just cuz you throw in a Cross copy you're not suddenly going to make this compelling.

It's like they've intricately studied the previous games to come up with a winning formula....and learned absolutely nothing.

Haha the acting is truly something else but it's also the controls, I feel so limited to just my controller in nfs games unlike Horizon I can enjoy it on keyboard, controller and my wheel.
Nfs needs to copy and paste the driving mechanics from FH.

Full agree. This one looks like much of the same, however I'll probably still play it [emoji23]
Haha just for the customization, I like rice out all my cars [emoji39]
#bring back spinners and hydraulics

Well what's wrong with keyboard in NFS? You can customize keys just like in FH. I didn't mind 2015 or Payback's driving mechanics to be honest, but yes, FH has that nailed down tight.

When I watched the trailer I was hoping for each moment that Cross would actually be there. That and the price was my only disappointment so far. Time will tell. Looking forward to the gameplay reveal at Gamescom.

Well if he's still a cop he'd be a commissioner probably now. Maybe this shouty wanna be Duke Nukem sounding Cross-copy fellah will mention something about Commissioner Cross wanting this or that at some point in the game.

But I think that's expecting too much from Ghost.

Rivals meets NFS 2015. Let's hope the PC port isn't as good as Rivals was.
I dont think i can ever forget the 30 FPS hard cap that game had. Unlocking the FPS also caused the game to run extremely fast because for some reason they thought it was a good idea to tie the FPS and actual speed of the game together. You were lucky if you even got a stable 30FPS at all, such bad memories.

The 30 FPS cap was NOTHING compared to the 720P cap.

That said...on a proper GSync monitor you can at least access a little of the magic promised by Gamescom gameplay. Still looks like arse though.

Out of all my games Rivals is the one where I appreciate GSync the most. Not that it would work with FreeSync monitors given their more limited Sync window usually starting around 40 FPS.

And yes you can also upscale it...but that teleports the trail indicators into the sky so doing any of the time trials becomes impossible.

Any evidence to support this theory?
Apparently not if I google. But I remember there being a lot of talk about the shitty render resolution on PC after it launched. Did you ever run the game resolutionscale 1.5 or 2.0? Only sort of worked for free roam but using that and the 60 FPS code caused a tears-worthy graphical difference on PC. And one not matched by DSR.

I did not unlock the frames. I just left it at 30. But honestly had no problem with 1080P. It didn't look weird, stretched or choppy. I played Rivals again earlier this year so have a fresh memory of it.

It looks grainy and aliased as heck. Not remotely like what 1080P should look like or the sharpness of Gamescom PS4 gameplay. If you ever ran resolution scale 2.0 THEN you get Gamescom levels of sharpness. And DSR offering me nonsense high resolutions does not come close.

It looks like Komani's 720P PES trash from prior years (they've since figured out how to actually do a halfway decent port though).

Eh different strokes for different ho's I guess, but I don't recall any issues. I'll give it another look with a fresh set of eyes tonight. Still have it installed. Sometimes you don't even notice things until someone mentions it.

Could be I'm just overly jaded. Rivals is my biggest PC gaming disappointment ever.

Actually for that matter if Heat fails then EA can we scrap Ghost please? Even though there might be former Criterion and Black Box members there's none of the magic either of those two studios produced, I'm guessing Ghost just got the janitorial staff.
Fuck Ghost, forever and ever.
You've destroyed better studios with a lot more commercial success than Ghost has ever gotten you.

I hated Criterion to be honest. Burnout is absolute dogshitcockwankvommit. If they want to make Burnout games then fine, make Burnout games, but keep that dogshitcockwankvommit out of Need For Speed though.

Nein. They weren’t my fav NFS games. That is not what NFS is for me. Like the masses I got into NFS when Underground 2 dropped. That, Most Wanted 2005 and Carbon is what NFS will always be to me. Not these Burnout-esque knockoffs. So I’m hoping and praying that Heat is what I’m waiting for. NFS 2015 was heading in the right direction but was fucked up soon into the game.

Maybe that's why our opinions are so different.

I got into it with NFS2-SE.

Underground 2 was my 5th NFS and the second departure from what I was used to. I didn't even get Carbon till many many years later.

Contrary to common belief there was NFS before the Fast and the Furious film franchise.
And that's the NFS I want to return to.

NFS is NOT a tuner series, nor is it a circuit series (SHIFT). It's about exotics on amazingly scenic tracks.

And Hot Pursuit (2010) was a lot closer to those roots and the best looking NFS ever made contending for quite possibly the best looking racing game ever made. Still to this day it looks fucking gorgeous.

You hurt me, deep in my soul. Sies

It's been clear to me for years what EA needs to do with NFS.

Similar to what COD does with Black Ops they need to alternate their releases between those wanting the Grand Tour experience and those wanting the Fast and the Furious experience.

One year give me bottled exotic tracks with gorgeous supercars and hypercars. Then next give me free roam underground street racing. The go back to the exotics again. With the occasional SHIFT thrown in just to mix things up. Cops optional on the bottled exotic version but cops mandatory on the Underground version.

This way you can have annual releases that however are still fresh and have tons of fans clambering for it because they've been chewing on the same game for close to 2 years.

For even greater quality you can go on bi-annual release so games have 4 years between them.

And those of us who enjoy both disciplines (me, though Underground to a lesser extent), it's just good times all the time.

Instead of constantly trying to please both parties failing to achieve either pooping out one mediocre game after another.
